Dagoretti Boys High School in Nairobi has been closed indefinitely following violent clashes between students, which left 11 Sudanese students injured.

The unrest, which began on Sunday evening as a dispute over a basketball game, quickly escalated into a full-blown confrontation that took on religious overtones.

The altercation, initially involving Form One and Form Four students, saw Kenyan students clashing with their Sudanese counterparts.

According to police reports, the situation spiraled out of control when Kenyan students clashed with their Sudanese counterparts, using sticks and stones during the melee.

The chaos unfolded on the school grounds, with video footage showing students roaming the compound at night, shouting and engaging in violent exchanges.

School buses were also seen leaving the premises as the situation deteriorated.

The injured students, who sustained minor injuries, were rushed to Garden Medical Clinic for treatment and are in stable condition.

The fight continued into the night, prompting the deployment of more police officers to the school on Monday to restore order and prevent further violence.

Police have increased their presence at the school to manage the situation, and investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the religious tensions that followed the initial sports-related dispute.

The closure is expected to allow time for a thorough assessment of the incident and ensure the safety of students and staff before the school reopens.
