A fire broke out at the Migori County Assembly store on the evening of September 18, 2024, prompting a police investigation.
The blaze started around 6 p.m. and is believed to have been caused by a county employee burning waste at a collection point nearby.
Unfortunately, the flames spread quickly to the assembly’s makeshift store, completely engulfing it before the county firefighting team managed to bring the situation under control.
The fire destroyed property of yet undetermined value.
Authorities are continuing to probe the incident, though early reports suggest no foul play.
However, the fire raised concerns as it occurred shortly after an official visit by the Auditor General’s office to inspect financial records.
Despite speculation, local officials dismissed any link between the fire and the audit, stating that no critical documents were lost and emphasizing that the destruction only affected less significant materials.
