Morara Kebaso Released on Ksh 50,000 Bail

Morara Kebaso was released on Tuesday after posting a cash bail of Ksh50,000, following his arraignment at the Milimani Law Courts over charges linked to an online post about billionaire businessman David Langat.

The High Court ordered Kebaso and his legal team, led by NARC-Kenya leader Martha Karua, to return for a hearing on Friday, October 4, at 2 pm.

Kebaso, who was arrested on Monday in a dramatic sequence of events, faces charges of posting false information on his X account.

According to the prosecution, the September 28 post falsely claimed that President William Ruto had sought financial help from Langat during his campaign, forcing the businessman to take loans using his properties as collateral.

The post further alleged that banks were auctioning Langat’s assets, and President Ruto was purchasing them at a devalued price.

Though it remains unclear who filed the complaint, Kebaso’s defense argued that the case centers around defamation rather than cyber harassment.

They also raised concerns about the identity of the complainant and the legal grounds for criminal charges in a case they argue should be a civil matter.

The court’s decision to grant Kebaso bail came after a brief hearing, with the case scheduled for mention on October 4.
