During today’s Mashujaa Day celebrations, President William Ruto maintained his characteristic silence regarding the impeachment proceedings against his Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua.

Ruto, who has largely avoided commenting on the matter in public forums, chose instead to focus on national issues and reforms such as healthcare and housing during his address.

His silence has sparked speculation, with many interpreting it as tacit approval of the impeachment process, particularly given the support for the move among some of his close political allies.

Despite the ongoing political tension surrounding Gachagua’s position, President Ruto shifted attention to the transformative projects his administration is working on, including affordable housing and universal healthcare coverage.

Ruto highlighted the success of these initiatives, such as providing homes in areas like Mukuru and Kibera, where citizens can now own homes through monthly payments of Ksh 3,000.

His focus on these reforms appears to be an effort to reassure the public about the government’s commitment to social development amidst the political drama.

As Rigathi Gachagua faces impeachment proceedings, his fate rests in the hands of Kenyan lawmakers.

Although Gachagua has publicly accused his boss of being behind the motion, President Ruto has remained publicly detached from the process.

The impeachment proceedings are likely to be closely watched, with the next steps involving a review by the Senate, which could lead to Gachagua’s removal from office if two-thirds of the Senate members vote in favor of the motion.
