Maseno University Students striking after the university rigged in a puppet as the school’s president! Watch

At Maseno University, a wave of protests erupted as students voiced strong objections to alleged election interference, accusing the administration of imposing a preferred candidate as the student president.

Tensions mounted after students claimed that the university leadership bypassed the electoral process, appointing a leader seen as a puppet rather than someone who truly represented student interests.

The campus quickly became the scene of intense demonstrations, with students barricading nearby roads, lighting bonfires, and clashing with law enforcement officers who were deployed to control the unrest.

The protests took a more violent turn after some students were reportedly injured in confrontations with the police.

This fuelled more dissatisfaction as students alleged police brutality and campus insecurity, pointing to past incidents where students felt unprotected from outside threats.

Frustrations over these safety concerns appeared to amplify the anger toward the alleged election tampering, with students demanding transparency in the university’s electoral process and better protection from authorities.

In response to the ongoing protests, university management has since held emergency meetings to seek a resolution and restore order on campus.

However, student leaders insist that the administration must address the underlying issues of electoral integrity and safety before any true calm can return to Maseno University.

The situation reflects broader tensions over student representation and security, which have been flashpoints in past campus protests across Kenya.
