On December 4, 2024, allies of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, including Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa, Nyandarua Senator John Methu, Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu, and MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, arrived at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices in Nyeri.

Their visit followed a summons issued to Senator Thang’wa concerning disturbances at a funeral in Limuru, where Gachagua was allegedly targeted.

The leaders’ presence in Nyeri sparked unrest among local residents, leading to confrontations with the police.

Videos from the scene showed agitated youths chanting anti-government slogans and attempting to drive law enforcement officers away.

Addressing the crowd, Senator Thang’wa criticized the police for their actions, asserting respect for the officers but condemning those who directed them to disrupt the gathering.

This incident occurred amid claims by Gachagua’s supporters of state-led intimidation tactics aimed at silencing them.

MP Wamuchomba expressed concerns about their safety, alleging surveillance and potential threats to their lives.

Despite these challenges, Senator Thang’wa affirmed his commitment to cooperate with the DCI, viewing the summons as an attempt to intimidate but emphasizing his readiness to face the investigation.
