Raila Odinga Breaks Silence after Ruto Reshuffled and appointed new Cabinet. Watch out

In December 2024, President William Ruto reshuffled his Cabinet, appointing former allies of ex-President Uhuru Kenyatta to key ministerial positions.

Notable appointments included Mutahi Kagwe as Agriculture Cabinet Secretary, Lee Kinyanjui as Investment, Trade, and Industry Cabinet Secretary, and William Kabogo as Information, Communication, and Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary.

This move followed earlier inclusions of opposition figures associated with Raila Odinga, signaling Ruto’s intent to foster a more inclusive government.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki defended these decisions, stating they aimed to broaden political consensus and promote equal development across the country.

However, these appointments have elicited mixed reactions.

Martha Karua, leader of NARC-Kenya and former Azimio principal, accused Raila Odinga of betrayal, alleging he had aligned with Ruto’s administration, thereby undermining the opposition’s role.

Karua emphasized the need for opposition leaders to stand with the people, particularly the youth involved in recent protests.

Additionally, some youthful protesters expressed dissatisfaction with the Cabinet changes, viewing them as insufficient to address their concerns.

They criticized the reshuffle as a mere political maneuver that failed to tackle underlying issues such as economic hardships and governance challenges.

In contrast, Francis Atwoli, Secretary General of the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU), praised Ruto’s inclusivity.

Atwoli stated that incorporating individuals from diverse political backgrounds would promote unity and enhance decision-making processes, ultimately benefiting Kenyan workers and advancing socio-economic welfare.

As Kenya navigates this evolving political landscape, the effectiveness of these appointments in achieving national unity and addressing citizens’ concerns remains to be seen.

The coming months will be critical in assessing whether the reshuffled Cabinet can implement meaningful reforms and engage constructively with all stakeholders.
