Nine individuals, including five members of the National Police Reserve and two National Government Administration Officers, have been arrested in connection with the killing of three people during inter-clan clashes in the Mogil area, Elgeyo Marakwet County.

The police have detained the suspects for questioning after they were implicated in the incident, which took place on January 2.

President William Ruto, who visited the area on Sunday, January 5, assured the public that the government’s efforts to combat security threats have been successful.

He emphasized that these efforts would continue until every region in the country is safe and secure.

The President highlighted that, aside from addressing banditry in the Kerio Valley, the government is committed to restoring essential services like health facilities, schools, and other social amenities in the region.

“In the next three months, we must ensure that all schools are reopened and that every child returns to school,” the President said, stressing the importance of education for the future of the children in the area.

Governor Wesley Rotich also spoke on the matter, expressing hope that the recent improvements in security in the Kerio Valley would lead to economic growth.

He pointed out that the region has not contributed to the national economy for the past 40 years due to persistent insecurity, but with the newfound stability, there is optimism for a better future.
