President William Ruto strongly condemned the attacks on the Kenyan Embassy in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

He described the incident as a grave violation of international law and emphasized Kenya’s demand for compensation from the Congolese government.

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs Minister Musalia Mudavadi echoed these sentiments, expressing deep concern over the attacks and highlighting that they occurred in the presence of security forces who did not intervene.

The unrest in Kinshasa was sparked by the recent offensive by M23 rebels in eastern DRC, particularly their seizure of Goma airport.

Protesters in the capital targeted multiple embassies, including those of France, Belgium, the Netherlands, the United States, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, and the United Nations, accusing these nations of complicity in supporting the M23 rebels.

The demonstrations escalated into violence, with several embassy gates set on fire and properties damaged.

President Ruto reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to regional stability and called for a peaceful resolution to the conflict in the DRC. He urged all parties involved to engage in dialogue and work towards lasting peace.

The Kenyan government also advised its citizens in the DRC to remain vigilant and adhere to safety protocols amid the ongoing unrest.
