Ex DP Gachagua to Be Allowed Back in UDA & Handed Job – MP Didmus Barasa Reveals

MP Didmus Barasa: Rigathi Gachagua May Be Reinstated in UDA and Given a Role

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua could be allowed back into the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) before the 2027 elections, according to Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa.

Speaking at a church service at Kapsang’ AIC Church in Uasin Gishu County on Sunday, Barasa revealed that Gachagua might be readmitted into UDA at the right time. The event was attended by key UDA leaders, including Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi.

According to Barasa, while Gachagua was deemed unfit to serve as the Deputy President, the party could reconsider reinstating him after his suspension.

The legislator suggested that by 2027, Gachagua would have gone through a period of political “rehabilitation” and could be welcomed back into UDA, even though he is currently pursuing a different political path.

“When the right time comes, even Rigathi Gachagua, whom we impeached, will be brought back if we need him.

He was only considered unsuitable to serve as Deputy President, but he can still be a voter and a member of our coalition. I am sure that by then, he will have undergone rehabilitation,” Barasa said.

Furthermore, Barasa hinted that upon his return to UDA, Gachagua could be assigned a new role. However, he did not specify whether it would be a government appointment or a position within the party.

“He now understands that as a Deputy President, one is a leader of all people. He is learning valuable lessons, and I am sure the church is also praying for him,” Barasa stated.

“By May 2027, we hope he will have changed, and we will revive his membership in UDA. We will bring him back as a member and find a suitable job for him at that time,” he added.

Despite these remarks, neither Gachagua nor UDA has made any official announcements about his exit. However, his recent actions suggest he is distancing himself from the ruling party.

Since his removal from office, which automatically stripped him of his position as UDA’s Deputy Party Leader, Gachagua has been actively mobilizing opposition against the party and its leadership, particularly in the Mt. Kenya region.

Following his impeachment, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki was appointed as the new UDA Deputy Party Leader, effectively marking the end of Gachagua’s leadership role in November when Kindiki was sworn in.

In an official statement, UDA confirmed the decision, citing constitutional provisions that rendered Gachagua unable to continue serving as Deputy Party Leader.

“By the resolution of the National Assembly and the Senate vote, and by the operation of Articles 75(3) and 45(7) of the Constitution, Rigathi Gachagua is no longer able to serve as the Deputy Party Leader. Therefore, he ceases to hold the office,” UDA stated.

The statement further announced that the National Executive Committee had appointed Prof. Kithure Kindiki as the new Deputy Party Leader, effective immediately.
