Gachagua Claims Ruto Offered Him Ksh2 Billion to Resign

Rigathi Gachagua Claims Ruto Offered Him Ksh2 Billion to Resign

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has made serious allegations against President William Ruto, claiming that he was offered Ksh2 billion to step down from his position as the country’s second-in-command.

Speaking on Tuesday morning during an interview with several Western Kenya radio stations from his Karen residence in Nairobi, Gachagua alleged that he was removed from office because he spoke out on issues affecting ordinary Kenyans.

He further claimed that lawmakers were allegedly bribed to support his impeachment. According to Gachagua, each Member of Parliament reportedly received a Ksh500,000 token, while Senators were given Ksh10 million each to back the move to remove him from office.

“The President personally asked me to resign and in return, he would give me Ksh2 billion so that I could continue with my business and have security. He told me to step down and assured me that I would have a chance to run for office in the future,” Gachagua alleged.

However, he questioned why the President was so interested in shaping his future political career while at the same time pushing him out of government.

Not Worried About Political Future

Gachagua dismissed claims that he was worried about being blocked from running for office in the 2027 general elections. He insisted that he does not feel pressured to contest for any political seat and that his ability to express his opinions freely is more important to him than securing a position in government.

“People are making it seem as if I desperately want to be in politics. The truth is, it is not a must for me to contest for any seat in this country. If I choose to vie, I will, but that decision is not something I am thinking about right now,” he said.

He further maintained that his constitutional right to run for office cannot be taken away, regardless of the impeachment.

Criticizes Government Over Rising Abductions

The former DP also took a swipe at President Ruto’s administration, accusing it of failing to address the increasing cases of abductions in the country.

Gachagua revealed that he had raised concerns about enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings while he was still in government. However, despite bringing the issue to the attention of the President multiple times, no action has been taken to curb the problem.

He also criticized Ruto for what he called a double standard—urging for peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) while failing to address the security challenges facing Kenyans.

“Our young people have done nothing wrong. All they are doing is speaking out about the state of the country, questioning the declining economy and poor governance. It is their right to do so, yet they are being targeted unfairly,” Gachagua stated.

His remarks come at a time when concerns over security, political tension, and governance issues continue to dominate discussions across the country.
