Breaking: DCI Summons Governor, Fernandes Barasa after Storming A Burial with Goons causing Chaos

DCI Summons Governor, MP & Former CS Over Funeral Chaos

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has summoned Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, Matungu MP Peter Oscar Nabulindo, and former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa for questioning.

The three are expected to appear before the agency’s Kakamega office today (Tuesday) following violent clashes that broke out during a burial ceremony over the weekend.

The incident occurred in Mayoni Ward, Kakamega County, during the funeral of a former chief, where supporters of rival political factions engaged in confrontations that quickly turned chaotic.

The clashes left several people injured, including a police officer who was part of the security team deployed to maintain order.

Reports indicate that the situation escalated, with attendees throwing chairs at each other, causing destruction of property worth millions of shillings.

The violence left the bereaved family in distress as they struggled to cope with both their loss and the mayhem at the funeral.

Security personnel had to intervene to restore calm, but not before some individuals sustained injuries, including bleeding wounds.

A police officer who was hurt in the scuffle had to be assisted by colleagues on site.

Following the disruption, the family of the deceased made a bold decision to reject gifts and monetary contributions made by Nabulindo and Echesa.

They returned a cow and cash donations that the two politicians had given during the funeral, expressing their disappointment in how the leaders conducted themselves at the solemn event.

According to the family, it was disrespectful for politicians to attend a funeral under the pretense of mourning, only to cause disorder by attempting to take over the funeral program.

The daughter of the deceased strongly condemned the act, stating in a recorded video:

“He cannot bring gifts and then come here to cause chaos during our father’s funeral. He was a peaceful man, and it is shameful for anyone to think they can create disorder and then expect us to accept their contributions.”

Her brother echoed her sentiments, emphasizing that this should serve as a lesson to all politicians who use funerals as political battlegrounds instead of respecting the mourning process.

“This should be a warning to every politician—you cannot attend a funeral and then take over the proceedings as if it were a political rally,” he stated.

To drive their point home, the family personally transported the donated cow back to Nabulindo’s office in Matungu. Upon arrival, the animal was handed over to staff members who were present at the compound.

The DCI is now seeking to establish the role played by each of the summoned leaders in the chaos and determine whether they should face legal action.
