Campbell Scott, a British businessman who was reported missing in Westlands, Nairobi, last week, has been found dead.

Makueni County Police Commander Alice Kimeli confirmed Scott’s death on Monday, February 24. His decomposed body was discovered in Makongo Forest, located approximately 96 kilometers from the last place he was seen alive.

Herders in the area stumbled upon the body, which had been stuffed inside a green sack. Initially, authorities could not immediately confirm if it was Scott due to the advanced state of decomposition. However, forensic identification later confirmed that the remains belonged to the missing 58-year-old businessman.

Investigators suspect Scott was murdered elsewhere before his body was dumped in the forest. His hands and legs were tightly bound using a green nylon rope, an indication that he may have been restrained before his death. The condition of the body suggested that he had died hours or possibly days before it was found.

Police moved the body to Nairobi for further examination, where it was officially identified as that of Campbell Scott.

In connection with his disappearance and death, authorities have detained two individuals—a taxi driver and a waiter—for questioning. The two are believed to have interacted with Scott before he went missing.

Scott, who was a Senior Director at a credit scoring firm, arrived in Kenya on Sunday, February 16. He was last seen the following day, Monday, February 17, while attending a conference at the JW Marriott Hotel in Nairobi.

Concerns over his safety arose when his colleague, who had traveled with him to Nairobi, noticed that Scott was unreachable. By Monday evening, around 6 p.m., all calls to his mobile phone went unanswered. An hour later, the hotel advised reporting the matter to the police.

During his visit to Kenya, Scott had planned several meetings with officials from different countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States, and other African nations.

Following his disappearance, Kenyan police, with assistance from Interpol, launched an extensive search operation that lasted several days. Their efforts ended in tragedy with the discovery of his body on February 24.

According to Police Commander Kimeli, a post-mortem examination is scheduled to be conducted on Tuesday to determine the exact cause of death.
