Watch This Space: Raila Odinga Speaks on Plans Ahead of 2027 General Elections

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has expressed his gratitude to the Kenyan government for its support during his campaign for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson position.

Speaking at the State House in Mombasa, Odinga acknowledged that President William Ruto did not just offer verbal support but also actively contributed to his campaign efforts.

“He went beyond words and ensured that the necessary structures were put in place to help with my campaign,” Odinga stated.

Now that he is back in the country, the veteran politician assured his supporters that he is not slowing down.

He emphasized that while his bid for the AUC chair did not succeed, it was still a victory for Kenya, and he is now focused on the next steps in his political journey.

“Our commitment to serving Africa remains, but Kenya is our home, and we are here to serve our people as well. I am back, and I will be meeting with my allies, consulting widely, and discussing the way forward. Just stay tuned—watch this space. I will speak again soon,” Odinga said.

Addressing reports that the government spent nearly Ksh. 13 billion on his campaign, Odinga dismissed the claims, explaining that the funds used were essential for logistical support.

“The money spent was necessary for travel and campaign activities. We did not live extravagantly; we simply made do with what was provided to us. Many African nations were generous enough to offer us accommodation during our travels,” he clarified.

With 2027 on the horizon, Odinga’s remarks have sparked speculation about his next political move. While he has not revealed specific plans yet, his call for supporters to “watch this space” hints at strategic decisions ahead.
