Ruto Responds to Standard Newspaper for Calling Him a Cunning President

President William Ruto has responded to a recent headline by the Standard newspaper, which labeled him as a cunning leader.

Speaking during a church service at Jesus Winner Ministry in Roysambu, Nairobi, on Sunday, Ruto dismissed the characterization, suggesting that the newspaper’s description stemmed from his ability to overcome political challenges set by his rivals.

“If you look at today’s Standard newspaper, the headline says that Ruto is very cunning. But I want to tell them that I am not as cunning as they claim. What they see is not my own wisdom but the grace of God leading me. We believe in God,” Ruto stated.

He went on to say that his political opponents had set up various traps in hopes that he would fail, but he successfully navigated through the obstacles. He likened his situation to that of Abraham in the Bible, who trusted God even when facing difficult times.

“Because I escaped the traps they set for me, they now say I am cunning. But that is not the case. I am simply following in the footsteps of Abraham. He relied on God’s guidance even when times were tough. It is not about being cunning, it is God’s favor at work,” Ruto remarked.

The President further claimed that certain unnamed individuals were actively working to undermine his leadership, but he had managed to outmaneuver them and continue leading the country.

“They carefully planned various political traps, expecting that if I didn’t fall into one, I would stumble into another. But by God’s grace, I overcame all of them,” he added.

Standard Newspaper’s Take on Ruto’s Leadership

The Standard newspaper’s Sunday edition carried a bold headline, “Cunning Ruto,” analyzing the President’s recent political strategies, including his early campaign efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to the publication, the country is facing serious challenges, yet Ruto has mastered the art of creating distractions to shift public focus from the real issues. The newspaper suggested that while the President continues to explain himself and engage in political activities, critical national problems continue to pile up.

The article accused Ruto of using diversion tactics to manage public perception. It pointed out that for the two years he has been in office, he has frequently shifted the national conversation away from scandals and crises that have affected his administration.

The Standard also highlighted that multiple sectors, including health, education, security, energy, transport, and diplomacy, have been hit by major challenges, some severe enough to destabilize the government.

“The President has become an expert in generating ‘bombshells’ that grab public attention, while more pressing matters quietly unfold in the background,” the publication reported.

Ruto’s Church Donations and Criticism

During the church service, Ruto also addressed criticism over his frequent donations to churches. On this occasion, he donated Ksh20 million to the church, brushing off those who have questioned his generous contributions to religious institutions.

He also revisited an incident involving the Catholic Church leadership in Nairobi, where Archbishop Philip Anyolo led the return of money that Ruto had previously donated to one of their parishes.

The President questioned the logic behind returning offerings meant for God, stating that he had carefully read the Bible and found no scripture suggesting that a bishop should return money given for church work.

“I am a keen reader of the Bible, and I have tried to find a verse that says when you give to God, the bishop should return it to you. Is there such a scripture? Have any of you ever come across it?” he asked the congregation.

Ruto’s remarks emphasized his belief in giving to the church, dismissing those who criticize his charitable acts.

As the political landscape continues to shift ahead of the 2027 elections, it is clear that Ruto remains firm in his strategy, while critics and analysts continue to debate his leadership approach.
