Ruto Issues Directives on Bomas Project After Gachagua Allegations

President William Ruto has announced that the construction of the Bomas International Convention Complex will commence in two weeks.

The project is aimed at upgrading the facility to meet international standards and enhance its status as a world-class conferencing center.

Speaking about the initiative, the President emphasized that transforming Bomas of Kenya into a top-tier convention hub is a key part of his administration’s plan to boost tourism and attract global events.

“The construction of the Bomas International Convention Complex is set to begin in two weeks. This marks a major step in the government’s mission to modernize the facility and position it as a leading venue for international conferences,” a government statement read.

The announcement comes just days after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua claimed that Bomas of Kenya was being sold to a Turkish investor.

Gachagua further alleged that President Ruto and his Cabinet had ignored concerns raised by the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), which reportedly warned that redeveloping the facility could pose risks due to its location within a crucial flight path.

According to Gachagua, the supposed Turkish businessman was closely linked to a senior government official, raising concerns about the transparency of the project.

However, in response to the allegations, Principal Secretary for Culture and Arts, Ummi Bashir, dismissed the claims, affirming that Bomas of Kenya had not been sold to any individual or entity.

“The plan to renovate and upgrade Bomas of Kenya is not new; it has been under discussion for the past decade. However, it is the current administration that has actively pushed for its implementation.

Bomas of Kenya holds a valid title deed issued in 1971, confirming its legal ownership,” Bashir clarified in a statement on Monday, March 10.

The government maintains that the project is meant to enhance Kenya’s cultural and economic appeal by transforming Bomas into a premier destination for international meetings, exhibitions, and conventions.
