The National Police Service (NPS) has issued an official statement regarding the tragic accident involving a motorcade linked to President William Ruto.

The accident, which occurred on Thursday, March 13, along Ngong Road near Adams Arcade, resulted in the death of a pedestrian, who was later identified as a foreign national.

In their statement, the police confirmed that investigations into the incident were already underway.

“The National Police Service is handling the matter, and investigations have commenced following the road traffic accident that occurred today at Adams Arcade along Ngong Road.

The accident involved government vehicles and led to the unfortunate death of a pedestrian who is a foreign national,” the statement read.

According to eyewitnesses, the male victim was attempting to cross the road when he was struck by one of the speeding vehicles in the presidential convoy.

The motorcade was reportedly heading from Lang’ata to Kibra, where President Ruto was scheduled to commission a project.

The accident immediately caught the attention of other road users and bystanders, who rushed to the scene in an attempt to help the victim. Sadly, they discovered that he had already succumbed to his injuries.

Videos and images shared online showed a large crowd gathering at the scene, trying to identify the deceased. Eventually, his body was covered with a cloth as residents looked on in shock.

Some witnesses expressed their disappointment, stating that despite hitting the pedestrian, the President’s convoy did not stop.

This raised concerns about the security measures and safety of pedestrians whenever the Head of State is moving through busy public roads.

A short while later, a police vehicle arrived at the location, secured the area, and transported the body to the Nairobi City Mortuary, where an autopsy is expected to be conducted.

The incident sparked widespread criticism, with many Kenyans questioning the logistics and planning of President Ruto’s movements in Nairobi.

Some people highlighted a series of security lapses in recent days, noting that citizens had also been attacked by criminal gangs, leaving motorists, pedestrians, and passengers injured. Cases of vandalism and looting have only worsened public outrage.

Amid the growing concerns, Muchiri Nyaga, the Director of Corporate Communication at NPS, urged anyone with information about the accident to come forward and assist the police in their investigations.

He also advised all road users, including motorists and pedestrians, to exercise caution and strictly adhere to traffic rules to prevent similar accidents in the future.
