Authorities have arrested 38 suspects as part of an intensified crackdown on criminal gangs that targeted the public during President William Ruto’s tour of Nairobi this week.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed that the suspects are in custody and will be held accountable for their actions.
The police emphasized their commitment to ensuring that those responsible for terrorizing innocent Kenyans face justice.
The attacks, which were carried out by organized gangs, occurred in different parts of Nairobi, including Thika Highway, Waiyaki Way, and Jogoo Road.
Some victims, including motorists and pedestrians, were ambushed, assaulted, and robbed in broad daylight.
Police Recover Motorcycles and Mobile Phones
During the operation, officers managed to recover seven motorcycles that were allegedly used by the criminals to carry out their attacks.
Additionally, several mobile phones, believed to have been stolen, were confiscated and are being held as evidence.
“The suspects are currently being processed at various police stations as they await their court appearance,” the DCI stated. “They will be charged with multiple offenses, including robbery with violence, preparation to commit a felony, and obstruction.”
The DCI further assured the public that the police will remain vigilant in their efforts to track down and arrest more suspects linked to these criminal activities.
Politicians Accused of Mobilizing Goons
On Friday, security agencies ramped up patrols and surveillance as President Ruto continued his tour of the capital for the fifth consecutive day.
However, reports indicate that some of the criminals who attacked and robbed residents may have been mobilized by politicians to accompany the president’s entourage.
Law enforcement agencies have vowed to take firm action against those found to be involved in organizing or encouraging such acts of lawlessness.
The police have urged members of the public to report any suspicious activities as they continue to crack down on criminal elements within the city.
