Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has revealed that he recently wrote a letter to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, urging him to ensure the smooth implementation of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report.
Speaking on Saturday during a wedding ceremony in Limuru, Kiambu County, Kalonzo raised concerns that Raila’s recent agreement with President William Ruto could affect the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya principal pointed out that while the process of shortlisting candidates for the IEBC positions had been completed, transparency and fairness were still crucial in the final selection of commissioners.
“We are waiting for the right time to address this matter. The panel responsible for choosing the IEBC commissioners must ensure that the nominees are selected fairly and represent all sides.
When we were discussing the NADCO report with Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah, I insisted on proper consultations and mutual agreement,” Kalonzo stated.
He further explained that he had expected Raila to remain aligned with his position throughout the process. However, following recent developments, he found it necessary to write to the ODM leader to ensure clarity and avoid any misunderstandings.
Criticism of Ruto’s Leadership
During his speech, Kalonzo also criticized President Ruto’s leadership, accusing him of failing to address key issues affecting Kenyans. He claimed that since Ruto took office in 2022, Kenya’s reputation on the global stage had suffered significantly.
The Wiper leader pointed to several critical issues, including the deteriorating education system and the rising cases of abductions in the country.
“As a nation, we have reached a point where even those in leadership appear uncertain about Kenya’s future. However, we in the opposition remain steadfast and committed to representing the people’s interests,” Kalonzo declared.
Calls for Government Accountability Over Adani Deals
Kalonzo also demanded that the government respect court rulings and provide clear evidence proving that the two controversial deals with India’s Adani Group had indeed been canceled, as President Ruto had announced.
According to the Azimio leader, despite a court ruling against the government’s deal with the Adani Group, the case remained unresolved because the government had failed to submit official documents confirming the termination of the agreements.
“We went to court to challenge the government’s agreement with Adani, and we won. However, the matter is still hanging in the air because the government has refused to provide proof that the deal was scrapped,” Kalonzo emphasized.
The Wiper Party leader insisted that the government must be transparent and follow the law, urging President Ruto’s administration to respect legal procedures and avoid making announcements that are not backed by solid evidence.
