United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Member of County Assembly (MCA) Nicholas Lorot from Burat Ward is fighting for his life after being shot multiple times by an armed attacker near Trojan Petrol Station in Isiolo Town on Wednesday evening.

Reports indicate that Lorot had just left a restaurant after attending a meeting with a senior official from the Isiolo County Assembly when an unknown gunman approached his vehicle and opened fire.

During the attack, Lorot attempted to shield himself, resulting in the loss of his thumb as he tried to deflect a bullet with his right hand.

He also sustained two additional gunshot wounds on the same arm. Despite the severity of the attack, he was quickly rescued and rushed to a hospital in Meru, where he is currently receiving medical treatment. Fortunately, his condition has been stabilized.

Leaders Condemn the Attack

The Isiolo County Assembly strongly condemned the shooting, terming it a cowardly act meant to instill fear. They assured the public that security agencies were already investigating the matter and would ensure those responsible face justice.

“The County Assembly of Isiolo firmly denounces the ruthless shooting of Hon. Nicholas Lorot, the MCA for Burat Ward.

The attack took place near the Northern Galaxy Hotel in Isiolo Town. He was immediately taken to a medical facility for urgent treatment,” read an official statement from the Assembly.

“As a legislative body, we stand against such acts of violence and remain committed to promoting peace, security, and justice.

We are actively working with security agencies and will fully support efforts to ensure the perpetrators are swiftly apprehended and held accountable.”

Leaders Call for Swift Investigations

Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo also raised concerns over the attack, criticizing the deteriorating security situation for leaders in the country.

Addressing the Senate, she expressed shock that the attack happened in the middle of Isiolo town, in full view of security officers.

“Hon. Nicholas Lorot was shot four times last evening. Fortunately, we managed to ensure he received urgent medical attention. However, this incident raises serious concerns about security, as it happened in a public place, yet the attackers managed to escape,” Dullo lamented.

Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo also condemned the shooting, calling for urgent investigations to unmask those behind the attack.

“I strongly condemn this senseless act of violence. I have directed security agencies to move swiftly and ensure thorough investigations are conducted so that the culprits are brought to justice without delay,” Governor Guyo stated.

He also sent his best wishes to the MCA, hoping for his full recovery.

“I pray for Hon. Lorot’s speedy recovery as he continues to receive treatment. My thoughts are with him, his family, and the people of Burat Ward during this difficult time.”

MCA Lorot’s Role in Isiolo County Assembly

Hon. Nicholas Lorot currently serves as the Chairperson of the Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Special Programs Committee in the Isiolo County Assembly.

His role involves spearheading key agricultural initiatives and overseeing programs aimed at improving food security and livelihoods in the region.

The attack on Lorot has sparked widespread concern, with many calling for enhanced security measures to protect leaders and residents in Isiolo.

Security agencies are continuing their investigations as pressure mounts for the arrest of those behind the attack.
