Kenyan Diplomat’s Son Accused of Defiling a Minor in India Sneaks Out of the Country

The son of a Kenyan diplomat, who was recently accused of defiling a young girl in India, has reportedly left the country without facing trial.

This shocking turn of events occurred after the Kenyan government, under President William Ruto’s administration, decided to recall the diplomat from his post in India.

According to Hindustan Times, an Indian news outlet, the diplomat, whose identity has not been revealed, departed India with his son after his diplomatic posting was terminated.

This occurred nearly ten months after the diplomat’s son was first accused of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl on a school bus in August 2023.

On April 2, the father of the victim spoke to the press in India, sharing that he had been informed by local authorities that the accused and his family had left the country.

“We were told last week by the authorities that the diplomat and his son had left India,” the father said. “This is very disheartening because we strongly believe that he has assaulted at least six young girls.”

Despite the distressing incident, the father confirmed that his daughter was recovering well, and the school had taken steps to transfer her to a different institution to ensure her safety and prevent further trauma.

Sources close to the situation explained that the diplomat’s son could not be arrested due to diplomatic immunity, a privilege that protects diplomats and their families from legal action or arrest in foreign countries.

These sources also revealed that the Indian government had made multiple requests to the Kenyan authorities, urging them to waive the diplomat’s son’s immunity so that he could be prosecuted for the crime.

However, the Kenyan government, under President Ruto’s leadership, has been reluctant to comply with these requests, which has led to frustration in India.

The case has sparked protests, particularly outside the school where the alleged assault took place. On February 7, demonstrators gathered to express their anger, accusing the Indian authorities of not taking swift action despite being aware of the incident when it first occurred.

One protester recounted the victim’s distress, stating that the young girl had been frequently complaining of urinating, which led her parents to take her to the doctor. “Two doctors confirmed that my daughter had been sexually assaulted,” the father shared.

“We informed the school about the incident, and they called in all the students who used the school bus except for the accused, claiming that he was on a field trip at that time.”

This case has raised significant concerns about the role of diplomatic immunity in shielding individuals from prosecution, and the lack of accountability for the diplomat’s son.
