Late Night Meeting Held to Prevent Ruto’s Embarrassment in Mt. Kenya

Outgoing Mbeere North Member of Parliament Geoffrey Ruku has reportedly intervened to ensure that President William Ruto’s visit to the Mt. Kenya region, specifically Embu, proceeds smoothly without disruptions.

The president is set to conclude his visit in Embu County, but there were concerns that the event might face interference.

Reports indicate that some members of the Embu County Assembly (MCAs) had threatened to disrupt the visit as a way of expressing their frustration with Governor Cecily Mbarire.

According to sources, the MCAs were angry because they were allegedly sidelined in the planning of the president’s visit.

Feeling excluded, they planned to use the visit as an opportunity to voice their discontent with the governor.

They even warned that they would cause chaos, which could have embarrassed the president and jeopardized the success of the event.

Emergency Night Meeting to Resolve Tensions

In response to the growing tensions, an emergency night meeting was convened at the Embu County Assembly.

The situation escalated as a section of the MCAs accused the governor of not only locking them out of the planning process but also barring them from attending the visit altogether.

As a retaliatory measure, the MCAs threatened to dismantle the Governor’s Delivery Unit (GDU), an essential team tasked with overseeing the successful implementation and monitoring of the county’s key development projects.

The disagreements intensified, with MCAs insisting that they deserved to be part of the president’s visit.

Sensing the urgency of the matter, MP Ruku stepped in and held a closed-door meeting that lasted about an hour and a half. His intervention helped defuse the tensions between the governor and the MCAs.

After the discussions, the MCAs softened their stance and pledged their support for the president’s visit. MP Ruku, who has been nominated for the position of Public Service Cabinet Secretary, later dismissed the conflict as an attempt by development opponents to create division.

Preparations Underway for Ruto’s Visit

With tensions now resolved, President Ruto’s visit to Embu is expected to proceed without incident. He will kick off his tour on Friday in Mbeere South Sub-County, where he will inspect and launch various development projects.

In anticipation of his arrival, preparations have intensified. Key areas of Embu town have been cleaned, and security has been reinforced to ensure a smooth visit.

The president is expected to oversee key initiatives, including road infrastructure improvements, affordable housing projects, fresh produce market developments, and electricity connectivity programs.

President Ruto has been using his tour to emphasize national unity and encourage Kenyans to put aside political differences for the sake of development.

His message has been centered on fostering peace and cooperation among leaders and citizens to ensure progress across all regions.
