Murkomen Explains Why Muturi Risks Arrest

Murkomen Says Muturi Could Be Arrested Over Government Secrets

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has said that former Public Service CS Justin Muturi might face arrest for allegedly violating government confidentiality rules.

Speaking during a press briefing in Mombasa County on Tuesday, April 8, Murkomen claimed that Muturi exposed the government by allegedly keeping important state documents in his personal email. He accused Muturi of going against the proper procedures for handling classified government information.

“He openly admitted to having sensitive government documents and even said he stored them in an email. In many other countries, that alone would have led to his arrest because that’s not how official documents are supposed to be handled,” Murkomen told journalists.

Murkomen further urged key investigative agencies, including the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), to take up the matter and investigate Muturi’s actions thoroughly.

He also dismissed Muturi’s recent allegations that President William Ruto tried to force him into corrupt dealings during his time in government.

Murkomen challenged Muturi to produce credible evidence to back his claims and submit it directly to the DCI.

“If Muturi believes he was coerced into corruption, he should not wait to be summoned. Just like he recently visited the DCI, he can go there again with any evidence he has,” Murkomen added.

The Interior CS also addressed the issue of Muturi’s security detail being withdrawn. He clarified that the withdrawal may have been part of a normal scaling-down process since Muturi is no longer a serving cabinet secretary.

However, Murkomen promised to seek more information from Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, since such decisions fall under the police boss’s authority.

“I suspect it was just a scale-down because Muturi is no longer a CS. But I will get clarification from the Inspector General.

Matters of security are not handled through politics; unless there’s something that demands my direct attention, this is an IG-level matter,” he explained.

Earlier on Tuesday, Muturi had accused the government of trying to intimidate him by taking away his bodyguards. He claimed that the move was a reaction to his firm political opinions and criticism of the current administration.

Muturi revealed that he was informed of the withdrawal of his security on Monday evening. When he made inquiries, he was allegedly told that his criticism of the government led to the decision.

“The government responded to my political stance by suddenly removing my security. Last night, my security personnel were told not to report to work because I’m seen as opposing the government,” Muturi said.

However, he downplayed the issue by saying that many Kenyans live without government-provided security, and therefore, losing his own detail wasn’t something to be overly worried about.

“I accepted it. There are many Kenyans who walk around every day without any form of government protection. So, it’s not something that should cause panic or concern,” Muturi added.

The war of words between the two former cabinet colleagues comes amid growing political tension and allegations of internal conflicts within government ranks.
