Telvin Mburu, a matatu tout, became a hero after stepping in to save a woman’s life during a medical emergency.
The emotional moment unfolded on NTV’s Fixing the Nation show on Wednesday, where Mburu shared the events of that life-changing day.
To his surprise, the woman whose life he had saved called in to thank him, creating an emotional scene that brought tears to Mburu’s eyes.
Mburu described how, on Friday, April 4, he was going about his regular duties during the busy rush hour when a female passenger suddenly alerted him to her breathing difficulties.
At first, Mburu didn’t realize the severity of the situation, but his instincts kicked in when he noticed how much the woman was struggling.
For Mburu, this incident hit particularly hard because he had lost his own mother to negligence. He explained that his mother had also experienced health complications, but those around her failed to take her to the hospital in time, a pain that still lingers in his heart.
This personal experience drove him to take immediate action when the woman in the matatu asked for help.
“I just did it out of goodwill,” Mburu said, recalling his thoughts during the ordeal. “I lost someone very important to me because no one cared enough to act in time.
I never had the chance to be there when it happened, but it hurt me to know that my mother had been ignored while she was asking for help.”
As the matatu approached Nyayo Roundabout on its way to Rongai, the woman’s condition worsened. Without hesitation, Mburu, along with the driver and fellow touts, rushed her to Nairobi West Hospital, where they carried her straight to the emergency ward.
Thanks to their quick thinking, the woman was given the immediate care she needed.
In a touching turn of events, the woman later called into the live show to update everyone on her condition.
She expressed how grateful she was to Mburu and shared how he had saved her life. “Thank you so much, Telvin. You have such a good heart.
What you did for me—God has decided to repay you for your kindness,” she said, her voice filled with emotion.
“I am so happy for everything that has happened to you. You saved my life, and now the whole world is witnessing your goodness.”
Mburu, clearly moved, fought back tears as he listened to the woman’s heartfelt words. Even the presenters on the show were visibly touched by the emotional exchange.
The woman continued to praise Mburu’s selflessness, stating that thanks to him, her children still had a mother, and her parents still had their daughter.
