A model recruitment event organized by Mary Biketi’s foundation ended in total chaos after a group of armed youths stormed the venue, causing panic and scattering participants.
Mary Biketi, who is well known for being the girlfriend of Wycliffe Oparanya, the current Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives, had organized the event at the Kitale Museum on Friday afternoon.
The purpose of the event was to scout for young models to represent her foundation, which focuses on youth and women empowerment.
Things took a dark turn when an unfamiliar vehicle arrived at the event grounds. Not long after, a group of rowdy youths, reportedly carrying knives and machetes, stormed into the venue and disrupted the peaceful gathering.
Speaking about the terrifying incident, Biketi said, “The first time I held an event here, it was to support the elderly.
This time, I wanted to do something for the youth, and then this unfortunate event happened. We were peacefully proceeding with our activities when the goons suddenly arrived. They attacked us, beat people, stole valuables, and even vandalized vehicles.”
The violent confrontation left several people shaken. Biketi’s own car had its rear windscreen smashed, while two female models were injured and robbed of their phones during the chaos.
Biketi strongly condemned the attack and made it clear that her intentions were purely humanitarian, not political. “We are not associated with any political party.
Our mission is to help each other, empower women, support the youth, and reach out to the vulnerable members of society,” she explained.
Event organizers who had joined Biketi at the venue also expressed outrage over the incident. They pleaded with young people not to allow themselves to be used by divisive and self-serving leaders.
Peninah Makambi, the foundation’s coordinator, described the attack as “barbaric” and called for immediate action to hold the perpetrators accountable.
“We are demanding a thorough and transparent investigation into this matter. All those who were involved must face justice without delay,” she firmly stated.
Mary Biketi is no stranger to the public eye. Her relationship with former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya became widely known after Oparanya openly acknowledged her in a July 2024 interview on the Art of Living show.
In that interview, he revealed that both of his wives were aware of Biketi and had accepted her presence in their lives, describing their blended family as peaceful and harmonious.
Despite the violent attack, Biketi was unharmed. She was quickly escorted from the venue by her security team before things escalated further.
The incident has raised concerns over security at public events and the growing trend of politically motivated violence targeting social initiatives.
