Wamuchomba Outlines 12-Point Agenda as President

Wamuchomba Unveils Ambitious 12-Point Plan for Kenya’s Economic Transformation if Elected President

Githunguri Member of Parliament (MP) Gathoni Wamuchomba has shared her ambitious vision for transforming Kenya’s economy, outlining a detailed 12-point plan she would implement if elected as the country’s president.

Speaking on Sunday, April 20, Wamuchomba expressed her confidence in leading Kenya towards a new era of growth and self-reliance by tapping into the power of local resources and labour.

“One day, I will lead this nation,” she boldly declared. “I will turn the energy and effort of our people into wealth. My administration will focus on creating cottage industries and making power affordable for these businesses.”

Cottage industries, she explained, are small-scale businesses usually run by individuals or families from their homes.

These industries have the potential to boost job creation, improve household incomes, and reduce reliance on imports.

Home-Based Production for Local Use

At the top of Wamuchomba’s plan is a push to ensure that every household with a backyard contributes to domestic production.

She envisions homes making simple but essential items such as spoons, toothpicks, pots, towels, and belts. This grassroots-level manufacturing, she believes, will drive self-sufficiency and reduce imports.

Cottage Industry Special Zones

Her second proposal involves the creation of special zones dedicated to cottage industries. These zones would benefit from subsidised electricity and water to lower production costs. This would encourage more people to start and sustain small manufacturing businesses.

National Symposium and Recognition

To encourage innovation and excellence within the sector, Wamuchomba plans to launch a national symposium where ideas, solutions, and progress can be shared.

Alongside this, she would introduce a national awards program to recognize and reward the most creative and impactful innovators in the cottage industry space.

County-Based Cottage Fund

To support upcoming entrepreneurs, Wamuchomba proposes establishing a special cottage industry incubation fund in every county.

These funds would help aspiring business owners get started, access resources, and grow their ventures.

Using Idle Stadiums for Markets

To create a space for selling locally made products, Wamuchomba plans to make use of idle stadiums across the country.

She suggested these stadiums could be turned into night markets operating between 6 p.m. and 1 a.m. every day.

These markets would be well-maintained with designated cleaning teams to ensure hygiene and order.

Technical Support and Oversight

Her plan also includes deploying extension officers who would provide regular support to cottage industry operators. These officers would help evaluate progress, offer technical advice, and ensure quality standards are maintained.

Revamping Kenya Industrial Estate

Wamuchomba intends to breathe new life into the Kenya Industrial Estate (KIE) by increasing its funding and using it as a platform to promote and market locally produced goods on the international stage.

Value Addition for Key Crops

She strongly opposed the export of raw agricultural products, stating that her government would ensure macadamia, coffee, and tea are processed locally before being sold.

This, she said, would create more jobs, increase earnings, and strengthen the local economy.

Mechanising Agriculture for Value Addition

To further enhance agricultural productivity, Wamuchomba wants to revive the Agricultural Mechanisation Unit.

This unit would provide equipment and technical support to farmers, helping them add value to their produce instead of selling it raw.

Support for Women Entrepreneurs

For Kenyan women, Wamuchomba promises initiatives aimed at economic empowerment. She plans to support the local production of hair wigs made from banana fibres and ensure all sanitary pads used in Kenya are produced locally using biodegradable materials.

A Plea to the People

Ending her statement on a humble note, Wamuchomba reflected on the challenges ahead. “Who will make me president? I don’t have the money to run a national campaign,” she said, showing her desire to rely on the people’s support rather than wealth.

Wamuchomba’s 12-point plan presents a grassroots-driven approach to national development, centred around empowering ordinary Kenyans and harnessing local innovation to grow the economy.
