Nairobi Politician Joel Munuve Dies After Sudden Collapse
Joel Munuve, the Member of the County Assembly (MCA) for Kariobangi North in Nairobi, has passed away. The outspoken politician reportedly died while receiving treatment at a well-known private hospital along Kiambu Road.
Sources close to the situation revealed that Munuve had collapsed while attending to his routine work at his ward office in Nairobi.
He was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he unfortunately passed on while undergoing medical attention.
The news of his death was confirmed by former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, who took to social media to mourn the late MCA.
In his message, Sonko conveyed his heartfelt condolences to Munuve’s family, colleagues in the Nairobi County Assembly, and the larger Nairobi County community.
“Kariobangi North MCA Joel Munuve has passed on. My sincere condolences to his family, the entire Nairobi County Assembly, and Nairobi County government fraternities.
May the Almighty God grant you strength, comfort, and hope during this painful time,” Sonko stated.
Karen MCA Anthony Maragu also joined in mourning his colleague, describing Munuve as a dedicated and humble servant of the people.
He referred to him not just as a fellow leader but also as a brother, highlighting Munuve’s strong commitment to the welfare of his constituents.
“Deeply saddened by the loss of my brother and colleague, Hon. Joel Munuve. A selfless leader who served Kariobangi North with passion and humility,” Maragu shared.
He went on to express that Munuve’s contributions and legacy will be remembered by many. “His impact will live on in the hearts of many. A great soul never dies—it brings us together again and again. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” he added.
Munuve’s sudden death comes just weeks after he made bold allegations against Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, particularly targeting the “Dishi na County” school feeding programme.
Speaking during a press conference held on March 21, Munuve accused the county government of losing billions of shillings through what he termed a controversial and poorly managed initiative.
He expressed concerns over financial mismanagement and questioned the transparency of the programme’s operations.
At the time, he even vowed to mobilize residents to support the impeachment of Governor Sakaja. “We need to impeach the governor. We are calling for a full forensic audit. What has he done with the money he claims is collected daily? How can one individual afford to purchase 17 vehicles?” Munuve questioned passionately.
His death now adds to the growing list of Kenyan politicians who have passed away since the beginning of the year, leaving a deep void in the political landscape, especially within Nairobi County.
