Details of Uhuru’s Meeting With Museveni

Uhuru Kenyatta Meets Museveni in Uganda, Urges African Youth to Take Charge

Former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta met with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Thursday during his visit to Uganda.

The meeting happened while Uhuru was in the country for the Guild Leaders’ Summit hosted at Makerere University.

Uhuru briefed President Museveni on the message he shared at the summit, where he passionately encouraged African youth to rise up, seize the opportunities before them, and become the new leaders of change across the continent.

Museveni expressed his support for Uhuru’s remarks, particularly his call for African leaders to prioritize the continent’s development by being “selfish” in favor of Africa’s interests.

He said he was happy to hear that the young people at the summit were aligned with the values he has long promoted: Patriotism, Pan-Africanism, Socio-economic Transformation, and Democracy.

“I was pleased to hear that these students are keen on what we have been preaching—the four principles of Patriotism, Pan-Africanism, Socio-economic Transformation, and Democracy—and how these values are essential for their prosperity.

I welcome this initiative and will meet with the Guild Leadership Academy to discuss it further,” President Museveni stated.

Both leaders stressed the vital role of youth in Africa’s progress. They urged young people to take the lead, fight for their rights, and actively push for the development of their communities and nations.

Uhuru went further, telling the young leaders that this was their “independence moment,” comparing their responsibility to that of freedom fighters in the past. He called on them to act with courage and urgency in defending and rescuing Africa’s future.

“Young leaders must recognize that this is an independence moment,” Uhuru said. “You are now the freedom warriors of this era.

You are the last line of defense in the struggle to save the heart and soul of Africa for the benefit of generations to come.”

Addressing the global shift in priorities, Uhuru observed that many developed countries have become more focused on themselves, which leaves Africa with the challenge—and the opportunity—to take control of its own path. He said this is a critical time for Africans, especially the youth, to step up and lead.

He also warned against Africa’s continued dependence on foreign aid, especially now that aid from sources like USAID is decreasing.

Uhuru urged African governments to rethink their economic and development strategies and take bold steps toward self-reliance.

“The decline of USAID support has triggered a deep moment of reflection in Africa’s economic policy space.

It is time for African leaders to rethink their priorities and invest in sustainable homegrown development,” he said.

President Museveni echoed these sentiments and emphasized the importance of following the four principles he has long championed.

According to him, these values will lead Africa away from the harmful politics of tribalism and division and instead foster unity, prosperity, and sustainable development.

Also attending the Guild Leaders’ Summit was Uganda’s Vice President, Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo. She reiterated the call for unity, hard work, and Pan-African solidarity.

Alupo emphasized that Africa’s future rests in the hands of its young people and their commitment to transformation and cooperation across the continent.

The summit brought together a new generation of leaders who are ready to shape Africa’s future. With guidance from seasoned leaders like Uhuru and Museveni, the message was clear: Africa’s youth must now rise to the occasion, take ownership of their destiny, and lead the continent into a brighter, more independent future.
