Busia Woman Claims to Be ‘Mary, Mother of Jesus’ After Being Expelled from Catholic Church

A woman from Nangoma village in Matayos, Busia County, has stunned many locals after boldly declaring that she is the biblical Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ.

The woman, identified as Judith Nafula, made this extraordinary announcement shortly after she was reportedly expelled from Lwanya Catholic Church.

Her removal from the church is said to have been due to her alleged performance of miracles during services, something that the church leadership disapproved of.

How Nafula Declared Herself the Mother of Jesus

According to Nafula, her spiritual journey began when she experienced a divine calling from the Holy Spirit.

She described a moment when she witnessed a powerful light descending from the sky to the earth, followed by a voice identifying itself as Jesus Christ. “I saw a bright light fall from the sky, and then I heard a voice telling me it was Jesus, sent by His Father in heaven to find His mother, Mary,” Nafula recounted.

She said she responded by admitting that she didn’t know who Mary was, but the voice told her that she was the one—Mary had been hidden inside her all along, and now it was time for her to be revealed to the world.

Nafula said this moment changed her life completely. She added that she spent two months praying and meditating on a hill, where she claimed to have had spiritual encounters.

According to her, the moon would come down to her and show her visions and knowledge from the heavens.

“In the morning, the moon would speak to me and instruct me to go and tell people that Jesus of Nazareth is passing by,” she shared, describing her deep spiritual connection and guidance from what she believes are divine forces.

Growing Support Despite Initial Doubts

When she first declared her new identity as Mary, many people around her thought she had lost her mind or had been bewitched. The reaction from the community was mostly disbelief, and people kept their distance, unsure of what to make of her claims.

However, with time, the situation has changed dramatically. Some locals now believe in her spiritual abilities, especially after reports of miraculous healings and answered prayers began to spread.

Her husband, John Wekulo, also shared his experience, admitting that he was initially shocked and confused by her claims.

However, he said he later received his own divine revelation, where he came to understand that he is Joseph, the earthly father of Jesus. “God works in ways that humans can’t always understand. I didn’t expect this, but now people just show up at our home for prayers and blessings,” he explained.

Nafula’s sister-in-law, Everline Ouma, confirmed that more people are beginning to believe in Nafula’s powers.

She revealed that several individuals who were unable to have children claim they conceived after receiving prayers from Nafula. “People are now realizing that she has the ability to perform miracles. Women who were barren are now mothers, thanks to her prayers,” said Everline.

Home Turned Into a Place of Pilgrimage

Nafula’s home has gradually turned into a spiritual destination, drawing both the curious and the faithful from surrounding areas. Some come out of fascination, while others arrive in search of healing, miracles, or spiritual guidance.

Onlookers and believers alike now refer to her as the ‘Mother of Jesus,’ and her growing influence has brought both attention and reverence.

What started as a controversial and shocking claim is now transforming into a local movement.

Whether viewed as a religious awakening or a mysterious phenomenon, Judith Nafula’s story continues to draw widespread interest and stir conversations across Busia County and beyond.
