Details of X Influencer’s Last Phone Call Before His Mysterious Death in Police Custody

Details Emerge About X Influencer Albert Ojwang’s Final Phone Call Before His Mysterious Death in Police Custody

A leaked phone call between popular social media personality Albert Ojwang and a close friend has revealed the heartbreaking final moments before his sudden death in police custody.

The call, which has since been widely shared online, offers a glimpse into his state of mind shortly after he was arrested, shedding light on the fear and confusion he experienced during his final hours.

One of the most striking moments in the call is when Ojwang, sounding troubled and uncertain, asked his friend whether he would be safe while in police custody.

His concern, unfortunately, turned out to be a grim foreshadowing of what was to come, as he died under unclear circumstances while being held at the Central Police Station in Nairobi on Sunday, June 8.

Albert Ojwang had reportedly been arrested earlier that same day in Homa Bay before being transported to Nairobi.

Speaking over the phone, he told his friend that he hadn’t been informed of any specific charges against him and was still waiting to be briefed by the authorities.

In the recording, he can be heard asking his friend, “Have you ever been arrested before? What is it like? I’ve never been in this kind of situation.”

His tone was anxious, showing he was clearly overwhelmed by the unexpected arrest and the unfamiliar environment.

His friend, whose identity remains unknown, responded by sharing his own experience of being detained at the Industrial Area Police Station, which is often described as one of the toughest detention centers in Nairobi.

Despite the harsh conditions he had faced, the friend tried to reassure Ojwang by saying, “There will be a few tough moments here and there, but you’ll get through it. I’ve been in Industrial Area, and it’s one of the worst places. You’ll be fine.”

As the phone call came to a close, Ojwang asked the now-viral question that has left many Kenyans shaken: “Will I be safe in here?” His friend, still believing there was nothing to worry about, replied calmly, “Yes, remand is safe.”

Tragically, that assurance would soon haunt the friend. The call had been intended as a way to confirm Ojwang’s location and arrange a visit. Instead, just hours later, news broke that Ojwang had died while in police custody.

Later that night, on Sunday, police issued a public statement claiming that Ojwang had taken his own life by repeatedly hitting his head against the wall of his cell.

They added that the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) had launched a full investigation into the incident.

However, the explanation provided by the police was quickly met with skepticism and anger.

Many Kenyans, including politicians, human rights activists, and members of the public, questioned the credibility of the suicide claim and demanded a thorough and transparent investigation into Ojwang’s death.

By the early hours of Monday, June 9, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja released a new statement confirming that all officers who had been on duty at the Central Police Station on the night of Ojwang’s death—including the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) and the duty officer—had been arrested as part of the investigation.

The tragic incident has sparked a national outcry, with many Kenyans calling for justice and accountability.

Albert Ojwang’s death has now become a symbol of the larger concerns about the treatment of detainees in police custody, and the public continues to demand clear answers as investigations proceed.
