Chaos Erupts at Homa Bay County Assembly as Tensions Rise Over Impeachment Plans

There was chaos at the Homa Bay County Assembly on Tuesday morning after several Members of County Assembly (MCAs) were blocked from entering the premises by individuals whose identities remain unknown.

The unexpected incident disrupted the day’s assembly proceedings and has raised serious concerns over the ongoing political wrangles within the county government.

The chaos comes at a time when there are claims of an ongoing plan to impeach the Majority Leader, Richard Ogindo, with the vote reportedly set to take place on June 10.

Ogindo is facing serious allegations of corruption, including claims that he demanded kickbacks in exchange for approving car grants and other financial benefits meant for MCAs.

“We were blocked without any explanation,” said one frustrated MCA. “Some of us travelled long distances just to attend this session, only to be denied entry and prevented from doing our work. It’s unfair and unacceptable.”

Reports indicate that 22 MCAs have already signed a petition supporting the impeachment of Ogindo, while 21 MCAs have refused to endorse the motion. According to witnesses, unknown individuals were stationed at the assembly gates, turning away some MCAs who were attempting to enter the compound.

A number of MCAs have accused Ogindo of misusing his leadership position and interfering with the fair distribution of car grants. They claimed he demanded bribes in exchange for financial benefits that are supposed to be offered equally to all members.

“He’s been using his position to frustrate others and push selfish agendas,” one MCA said. “We can’t continue working under a leadership that acts as if the assembly belongs to them alone. We deserve better governance and fairness.”

The incident has prompted concern among leaders and the public alike, with investigations now underway to uncover who was responsible for blocking the MCAs from accessing the assembly grounds.

“This is a direct attack on democracy,” said one opposition-leaning MCA. “It is shocking to see such lawlessness being allowed within the operations of a county assembly. There’s no place for intimidation or political thuggery in county governance.”

Responding to the events, Majority Leader Ogindo dismissed the impeachment efforts as selfish and politically motivated. He insisted that the assembly had always provided equal opportunities for all members to express their views and raise concerns.

“We have created a fair space for every member to voice their opinions,” Ogindo stated. “If there are individuals pushing for impeachment, they are doing it for their own selfish reasons.

As an assembly, we’ve handled members’ welfare transparently, and we do not support any attempts to cause division or disorder.”

The incident has sparked widespread debate and concern across Homa Bay County, with many residents and political observers now closely watching how the matter will unfold.

As investigations continue, the focus remains on whether the leadership can restore order and ensure that democratic processes are upheld within the assembly.
