Nanam Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) and UDA party official Philip Ekuwam Lomuria has passed away. His death was confirmed in a public statement issued by UDA Party Secretary-General Hassan Omar, who expressed deep sorrow over the loss.

However, the party did not immediately reveal the exact cause or circumstances of his death.

Lomuria had been serving as the Deputy Speaker of the Turkana County Assembly at the time of his passing. Secretary-General Hassan Omar remembered him as a loyal and hardworking UDA member who performed his legislative duties with dedication and enthusiasm.

“Until his death, Lomuria, who also served as the Deputy Speaker of the Turkana County Assembly, was a staunch and dedicated member of the UDA Party. He showed great commitment and energy in his work as a lawmaker in the County Assembly,” read part of the official statement.

The UDA Party extended its heartfelt condolences to Lomuria’s family, the County Assembly, and the residents of Turkana County. The party said it stands in full support of the family and community during this painful time of mourning.

Turkana County Assembly Speaker Charles Ewoi added that MCA Ekuwam died while receiving treatment in hospital after suffering from an illness. In his tribute, Speaker Ewoi praised Lomuria for being a principled and devoted leader who had always put the needs of his constituents first.

“Honourable Lomuria was a committed and disciplined leader. He served the people of Nanam Ward with honor and integrity. His dedication will be missed by many,” said Speaker Ewoi.

Ekuwam was first elected as MCA in 2013 and quickly rose to become the Deputy Speaker of the Turkana County Assembly during his first term. In 2022, he was re-elected and continued to hold the position of Deputy Speaker until his death. Throughout his political career, he earned respect for his efforts to bring development and unity to his community.

“His legacy of service, unity, and strong leadership will be remembered for years to come. We send our sincere sympathies to his family, the people of Nanam Ward, and everyone who had the privilege of working with or knowing him,” added Speaker Ewoi.

Lomuria’s death is a major blow to the UDA party, which has now lost another key figure in county leadership. Just a few months ago, on November 13 last year, the party lost another dedicated MCA, Mark Wainaina, from Murang’a County.

Wainaina, who was a nominated MCA, died while being treated for a serious illness. He had been suffering from a severe pulmonary condition that led to lung failure. His health deteriorated, and he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in a hospital before he eventually passed away.

President William Ruto led the nation in mourning the death of Wainaina. He described him as a cheerful and intelligent leader who had a lot of potential and was always eager to serve the people.

The deaths of both Philip Ekuwam Lomuria and Mark Wainaina have left a deep void in the UDA party and the county assemblies they served. Their contributions to county leadership and the UDA Party will not be forgotten.
