Kalonzo Addresses Joining Govt

Kalonzo Rejects Claims of Joining Ruto Government

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has strongly rejected claims that he is planning to join President William Ruto’s government, calling the reports misleading and dishonest.

Kalonzo was reacting to statements made by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki over the weekend. Kindiki had hinted at his willingness to hold talks with Kalonzo for possible political cooperation.

However, Kalonzo dismissed the proposal, saying it was a distraction aimed at breaking the unity of the opposition.

A report published by The Standard claimed that Kalonzo might be reconsidering his position and could be warming up to the idea of joining the government.

Political experts warned that if Kalonzo were to shift alliances, it could seriously weaken the opposition’s cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a strongly worded response, Kalonzo rubbished the reports and said they were part of a wider scheme to cause division within the opposition camp. “These claims are just a poor attempt to divide the United Opposition.

I cannot meet or work with individuals who have blood on their hands — including that of Albert Ojwang. Kenyans are not fools.

Mr. HalfTam, I will always stand with the people,” Kalonzo stated, referring to the recent death of Albert Ojwang at the Central Police Station in Nairobi.

Kalonzo also appeared to personally criticize Kindiki, calling him “Mr HalfTam” — a nickname mocking Kindiki’s controversial rise to the position of Deputy President after he replaced Rigathi Gachagua in what sources have described as a tense internal conflict within the Kenya Kwanza alliance.

During his visit to the Ukambani region, Kindiki told residents that he respected Kalonzo as a senior lawyer and admired his respectful nature.

He said he would seek to engage Kalonzo in discussions aimed at developing the region. “I have a lot of respect for Kalonzo, not just because he is senior to me in law, but because he respects all leaders.

I am ready to approach him, because what matters is development for the people in this region, just like in other parts of the country,” Kindiki explained.

The Deputy President, who has been holding a series of public empowerment forums across Ukambani, visited several constituencies, including Machakos Town, Masinga, Kangundo, Yatta, Mwala, Kitui East, Kitui Central, Kitui South, Kaiti, Kilome, and Makueni.

He said the people had urged him to reach out to Kalonzo and hold talks. “You have given me this task and I will pursue it.

We don’t want Kalonzo to be misled by individuals who are trying to destabilize the country with tribal and divisive politics,” he assured.

Efforts to convince Kalonzo to work with the government have increased in recent weeks, especially after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between President Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. Kalonzo now remains one of the few key figures still firmly rooted in the opposition.

Some leaders allied to the government have encouraged him to follow in Raila’s footsteps and support the government’s agenda.

Despite the mounting pressure, Kalonzo has stood his ground. He has repeatedly said that he will not join the government, especially if the proposed cooperation does not offer any real benefits to ordinary Kenyans.

He has continued to emphasize that his commitment lies with defending the people and ensuring their voices are heard.
