MCAs Locked Inside County Assembly as Alleged Hired Goons Surround the Premises

MCAs Trapped Inside Isiolo County Assembly as Alleged Hired Goons Lay Siege

There was chaos at the Isiolo County Assembly on Wednesday, June 18, after a dramatic standoff erupted between Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) and individuals believed to be hired goons, some reportedly armed.

Photos and videos shared widely on social media showed large groups of civilians gathering outside the County Assembly compound. The crowd was seen forcing their way to the gates, demanding that certain unnamed individuals vacate the premises immediately.

According to information received by Newshub.co.ke, the MCAs had arrived at the assembly to carry out their regular legislative duties when the incident occurred.

However, their session was abruptly disrupted when a group of unknown people, some allegedly carrying weapons, tried to storm the chambers.

One video that has been circulating online captures a tense moment, where a local resident can be heard shouting, “They must leave today. We cannot accept this,” reflecting the charged mood of the crowd outside.

Inside the County Assembly, the atmosphere was filled with fear and confusion. Some MCAs began recording video clips claiming they were under siege.

A few pointed fingers at Governor Abdi Guyo, accusing him of orchestrating the attack by sending goons to harass and intimidate them, aiming to prevent them from conducting their official business.

“The County Assembly is under attack. Goons have been sent. We are at risk. MCAs are hiding inside. These people are armed. If anyone gets hurt, let it be known that our security has been compromised,” one MCA stated in a video shared online.

This dramatic standoff came just a day after a scheduled public participation forum on the proposed impeachment of Governor Abdi Guyo was abruptly cancelled.

The cancellation was prompted by a conservatory court order issued by Justice Heston Nyaga, who ruled that the affidavit presented by the governor’s legal team contained serious matters that required the court’s intervention.

Since the impeachment motion was filed, several MCAs have raised concerns over threats to their safety. Some members reportedly fled Isiolo and relocated to other counties for fear of being attacked.

They first moved to Nakuru and later to Machakos, especially as tensions around the public participation exercise continued to rise.

On Sunday, Burat Ward MCA Nicholas Lorot claimed that some assembly members were being followed by vehicles carrying armed individuals while they were traveling between Nakuru and Machakos, further raising fears of targeted harassment and possible harm.

The unfolding events have exposed the growing tension and deep political divisions in Isiolo County, with questions now being raised about the security of elected leaders and the integrity of democratic processes in the region.
