Miguna Miguna Gets Citizen TV Interview After Public Demand

Outspoken lawyer and political activist Miguna Miguna is set to appear on Citizen TV for what many believe will be a fiery and revealing interview. This follows Citizen TV’s approval of a formal written request made by Miguna himself.

Miguna had written to the station on Wednesday, July 2, asking for an exclusive interview with senior journalists at Citizen TV. His request came as a direct response to a recent interview granted to former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i on the same platform.

According to Miguna, the former CS—who recently announced plans to run for the presidency in the 2027 General Election—was not properly held accountable during his interview.

Miguna argued that the interview failed to highlight or question the serious issues that occurred during Matiang’i’s time in office from 2013 to 2022.

“Citizen TV gave Fred Okeng’o Matiang’i an exclusive platform where he lied about all the human rights violations and injustices he oversaw between 2013 and 2022.

The interviewer, Sam Gituku, hardly challenged him on any of these matters,” Miguna said in a statement. “As one of his victims, I am requesting an exclusive interview in order to respond and set the record straight,” he added.

Miguna also stated that although he preferred a live interview, he would do it remotely since he is currently living in Ontario, Canada.

Not long after sharing his request online, Miguna posted a response he received from Linus Kaikai, the Head of Editorial at Royal Media Services (RMS), which owns Citizen TV.

The message confirmed that his request had been accepted and an interview would be scheduled within the next seven days.

“Wachira Waruru (the Managing Director at RMS) and I have received your interview request. We are pleased to confirm that you will be given the opportunity to appear on Citizen TV within the next 7 days. See you live on Citizen TV!” read Kaikai’s message.

The long-standing feud between Miguna Miguna and Fred Matiang’i dates back to 2018, when Miguna was controversially deported from Kenya. Matiang’i, who was then serving as Interior CS, was at the center of the operation.

Miguna’s troubles began after he played a central role in the symbolic “swearing-in” of opposition leader Raila Odinga as the “People’s President” at Uhuru Park on January 30, 2018.

The event was staged following the disputed 2017 presidential election, in which Raila Odinga claimed he was robbed of victory against then-President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The Jubilee government, led by Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto, viewed the ceremony as an act of treason and a threat to national stability. In response, the government launched a crackdown on those involved.

Miguna was arrested on February 2, 2018, and detained in secret for several days. He was charged with treason due to his participation in the oath ceremony.

During this period, Matiang’i and the government claimed that Miguna was no longer a Kenyan citizen. They argued that he had automatically lost his citizenship when he became a Canadian citizen in 1988 under the old Constitution, which did not allow dual citizenship.

They also claimed he had failed to legally reapply for Kenyan citizenship after the 2010 Constitution, which permits dual nationality.

Miguna, however, rejected these claims outright. He maintained that he is a Kenyan citizen by birth and had never given up his citizenship.

He described the government’s actions as unlawful and politically driven, meant to punish him for opposing state power and speaking the truth.

Despite multiple court orders directing his release and appearance in court, Miguna was forcefully deported to Canada in February 2018. He claimed that he was sedated and dragged onto a plane against his will.

In March 2018, Miguna attempted to return to Kenya, but faced yet another dramatic confrontation at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

He was detained at the airport for several days without proper food, legal access, or communication, before being deported once again—this time to Dubai.

His Citizen TV appearance is expected to reignite conversations around state abuse, political persecution, and justice for victims of government overreach. Many Kenyans are now eagerly awaiting the interview, anticipating a bold and uncensored exchange.
