KURA Boss Silas Kinoti Breaks Silence After Resignation Rumors Following Exit of KeRRA and KeNHA Heads

Silas Kinoti, the Director General of the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), has come forward to dismiss widespread rumors suggesting that he had resigned or was about to go on terminal leave.

His response comes shortly after the confirmed resignations of his counterparts at the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) and the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA), which sparked speculation about his own status.

In a strongly worded statement released on Friday, July 11, Kinoti made it clear that the reports circulating on social media about his departure were completely false and unfounded. Taking to his personal social media accounts, he firmly denied the claims and reaffirmed that he was still actively serving in his role at KURA.

“Let me set the record straight — I, Eng. Silas Kinoti, Director General of the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), am NOT proceeding on terminal leave, nor have I resigned. The statements being circulated online are entirely FALSE, MISLEADING, and should be ignored,” Kinoti stated.

He urged Kenyans to be cautious about fake news on social media, emphasizing the importance of trusting official sources for any updates regarding KURA or its leadership.

“I advise the public to avoid falling victim to rumors and fake news. For any accurate updates concerning KURA and its leadership, please rely solely on verified and official communication channels,” he added.

Kinoti also took the opportunity to reaffirm his continued commitment to serving the nation through KURA, stating that he remains fully dedicated to the authority’s mission of improving and maintaining urban roads across the country. He emphasized that his duties were ongoing and uninterrupted.

“We are firmly focused on delivering quality urban road infrastructure to Kenyans. I continue to perform my responsibilities as Director General with full dedication and without any interruption,” he reassured.

KURA itself also released a formal statement echoing Kinoti’s sentiments, categorically denying the rumors. The authority confirmed that the reports circulating online were baseless and should not be taken seriously.

“We would like to inform the public that the claims suggesting that Eng. Silas Kinoti is on terminal leave or has resigned from KURA are false and misleading. Members of the public are advised to treat this information with the contempt it deserves,” the agency stated.

This clarification from both Kinoti and KURA came in the wake of significant leadership changes at other major road agencies. On the same day, KeNHA announced that Director General Kungu Ndungu had officially resigned, with Eng. Luka Kimeli taking over in an acting capacity. Similarly, KeRRA’s DG Philemon Kandie also stepped down amid controversy, prompting a swift leadership reshuffle.

With Kinoti now addressing the matter head-on, KURA has drawn a clear line to differentiate itself from the leadership shakeups currently affecting the country’s road agencies. For now, Kinoti remains firmly at the helm, continuing to oversee KURA’s mandate as speculation around the broader infrastructure sector continues to swirl.
