Joho, Duale, and Ruku Announce Major Appointments in Latest Government Reshuffle

In a wave of recent government changes, several Cabinet Secretaries have made important appointments to different boards and agencies across the country.

Ali Hassan Joho, the Cabinet Secretary in charge of Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs, has appointed Ibrahim Malow Noor as a new member of the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute. Noor will serve in this position for the next three years.

He is not a stranger to the public, having previously worked as a Garissa County officer. However, his appointment has raised some eyebrows due to his past involvement in a Ksh233 million corruption case that was reported back in 2021.

Meanwhile, in the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has named Carren Akinyi Olweny and Abdisalan Adow Abdi as members of the Nuclear Power and Energy Agency. Their appointments are effective from July 11 and will also run for a period of three years.

Over at the Ministry of Health, CS Aden Duale has appointed Pauline Nyokabi as a new member of the Digital Health Agency, replacing Linda Murugi Gebson, whose appointment was revoked. Nyokabi will serve for a three-year term.

In another move, Dr. Francis Owino, who was appointed in December 2024 as a Commissioner of the Public Service Commission, has now been given an additional role as a member of the Kenya School of Government Council.

He will serve alongside Leonida Chelagat Mitei, who was appointed by the Human Capital Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku. Both will hold their positions for the next three years.

In the trade sector, Trade Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyajui has appointed Hamza Alio Abdi to serve on the Export Processing Zones Authority Board. His three-year term will begin on July 13.

Several leaders who had previously held various roles in government agencies have also been reappointed. These include:

  • Ilrasayon Neepe to the Kenya Airports Authority Board
  • Linnet Mirehane to the Kenya School of Government Council
  • Rose Auma Omamo to the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Board of Trustees

These reappointments were made by CSs Davis Chirchir, Geoffrey Ruku, and Alfred Mutua, respectively.

In the water sector, Water, Sanitation and Irrigation CS Eric Muuga made several key reappointments. Regina Ndambuki was reappointed as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Tanathi Water Works Development Agency, while Geoffrey Rukuja was reappointed as a member of the Tana Water Works Development Agency. Muuga also confirmed the reappointment of Nasri Sahal Ibrahim as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Northern Water Works Development Agency.

Lastly, in efforts to support reforms at the Kenya National Museums, Gender CS Hanna Wendot appointed Edwin Abonyo as the Chairperson of the National Museums of Kenya Board. His term will last for three years.

These appointments and reappointments show an ongoing reshuffle across various government bodies, with both fresh faces and returning figures expected to help shape key sectors in the coming years.
