MP Jayne Kihara Released on Ksh50,000 Personal Bond, Cautions Ruto About Ichung’wah

Naivasha Member of Parliament, Jayne Kihara, has issued a strong warning to President William Ruto regarding his close political alliance with Kikuyu MP and National Assembly Majority Leader, Kimani Ichung’wah.

Kihara addressed the press outside the Milimani Law Courts on Friday, July 18, shortly after being granted a personal bond of Ksh50,000. She had appeared in court to answer to allegations of incitement, charges she strongly denies.

While addressing the media, Kihara didn’t hold back. “President Ruto, I want to be honest with you — if Ichung’wah is your friend, then you don’t need to worry about enemies. With him by your side, you already have someone undermining the people. He insulted me and even told me to act my age,” she declared.

Kihara, who was arrested on the evening of Thursday, July 17, vowed to remain firm and fearless in her political mission to push for justice and a better Kenya. She maintained that intimidation tactics and legal threats would not silence her.

“I will not stop speaking out for Kenyans and standing up for the people I represent. Even if I have to spend days behind bars, I am ready. Fighting for justice means sacrifice. If going to jail is what it takes, then I will go,” she stated boldly.

She added with defiance, “I believe I’ve now reached the peak of my political career — spending a night in a police cell. I’ve never even had my name in an Occurrence Book (OB) before this. And to those who think this will shut me up, let them save their energy.”

Interestingly, the MP did not enter a plea in court as the magistrate had yet to determine whether the charges brought against her were legally sound. The court scheduled the next mention of the case for Tuesday, July 29, when a decision will be made on the legal weight of the accusations.

According to a charge sheet shared by her lawyer, Ndegwa Njiru, Kihara was accused of making remarks during a public rally in Nairobi on July 8, which were believed to potentially incite violence or disturb public order.

During that speech, Kihara claimed that National Youth Service (NYS) buses were used to ferry goons into Naivasha during recent protests, where they allegedly caused chaos in her constituency. She also accused the president of turning against young people, warning him against using state machinery to suppress the youth.

Kihara’s arrest was carried out by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), who reportedly stormed her home forcefully. Sources revealed that her arrest came after she allegedly ignored a DCI summons concerning the incitement allegations.

Despite the drama surrounding her arrest and court appearance, Kihara remains steadfast in her determination to stand up for what she believes is right — even if it means going head-to-head with powerful figures in government.
