Police Recover Skulls and Body During Raid on Kilifi Homestead as Government Launches Probe

The Ministry of Interior has launched a full-scale investigation into a disturbing case of suspected religious radicalisation in the Binzaro area of Kilifi County, following a shocking discovery that mirrors the infamous Shakahola tragedy.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, in a press briefing issued on Tuesday morning, confirmed that the operation was prompted by a tip-off from alert members of the public who had noticed strange activities in the area.

Acting on the report, a joint team of police officers and intelligence personnel conducted a swift and targeted raid on a remote, five-acre compound believed to be the centre of cult-like activities.

During the raid, officers rescued four individuals who appeared to have been confined under suspicious circumstances. The rescued persons include a 50-year-old man who had previously been reported missing at Siaya Police Station on April 15, his 40-year-old wife, and two women aged 40 and 19.

“Initial observations suggest the victims may have been influenced or manipulated by radical religious teachings,” CS Murkomen stated during his briefing.

Tragically, the security team also stumbled upon two human skulls and the freshly deceased body of an unidentified adult male, which they discovered in a nearby thicket within the compound.

The remains have since been transferred to Malindi Sub-County Hospital Mortuary, where they will undergo forensic tests, DNA analysis, and identification procedures.

According to Murkomen, the main suspect believed to be behind the operations at the compound is currently in police custody. Three other individuals, who are said to have been managing day-to-day activities on the property, have also been arrested.

In addition, three more suspects linked to the controversial sale of the land to the main accused are being held as investigations continue.

Authorities are looking into whether the land transaction followed legal procedures and whether the property was used for criminal or exploitative purposes.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Malindi has applied for extended protective custody of the rescued victims to ensure their safety and well-being as inquiries progress.

Crime scene investigators have secured and documented the entire property for a deeper forensic examination to uncover more evidence and determine the full extent of the activities that took place there.

CS Murkomen praised the local community for taking action and reporting suspicious activity, noting that their quick response may have helped prevent an even more tragic outcome.

“The government deeply appreciates the vigilance shown by area residents. Your willingness to report helped bring to light an operation that could have led to further loss of life,” he said.

He added that the government remains committed to fighting radical religious movements and extremist ideologies that prey on innocent and vulnerable citizens under the disguise of faith.

“The state is fully determined to confront and dismantle these dangerous ideologies and to protect Kenyans from manipulation, exploitation, and death in the name of religion,” Murkomen affirmed.
