Women Leaders Furious Over Ichung’wah’s Remarks on Pastor Dorcas, Demand His Arrest

A group of women leaders aligned with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have expressed outrage over remarks made by National Assembly Majority Leader and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah.

They are now calling on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to arrest the MP, accusing him of being disrespectful toward Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, the wife of the former Deputy President.

During a press briefing held on Tuesday, July 22, the women—under the DCP (Democratic Coalition Party)—publicly condemned Ichung’wah’s statements, which have since gone viral on social media.

In the clip, Ichung’wah is heard ridiculing Gachagua’s “Wantam” slogan, brushing it off as a mere domestic catchphrase. He went further to mock Gachagua by suggesting that the former Deputy President was more focused on political theatrics than nurturing his marriage with Pastor Dorcas.

These remarks sparked widespread backlash online, especially from women who viewed them as not only disrespectful but also an attack on female leaders.

DCP representative Moraa John, speaking at the presser, accused Ichung’wah of targeting women in leadership. She criticized his remarks as part of a broader smear campaign aimed at demeaning female voices in the political space.

“We are aware that there is a deliberate attempt to undermine women. As women of the DCP, we are demanding swift action. Let the DCI act with the same speed they show when coming after women in politics and immediately arrest Kimani Ichung’wah,” she declared passionately.

Another vocal leader, Njeri Kahiga, labeled Ichung’wah’s statements as not only reckless but also an affront to the dignity of Pastor Dorcas, whom she described as a national icon.

Kahiga praised Pastor Dorcas for her tireless efforts in mental health awareness, supporting widows and orphans, and standing up for the boychild—a segment often left behind in social advocacy.

“Dismissing her value in the name of political rivalry is a new low. Leadership should be anchored on maturity, decorum, and respect,” Kahiga asserted.

The DCP women leaders are not only demanding Ichung’wah’s arrest but are also pushing for a formal retraction of his remarks and a public apology addressed to Pastor Dorcas.

The latest uproar comes amid growing political tensions between Ichung’wah and Rigathi Gachagua. Their fallout has intensified in recent months following Gachagua’s impeachment as Deputy President, a move Ichung’wah is believed to have supported by rallying fellow lawmakers against him, citing constitutional breaches.

The rivalry hit a boiling point in June 2025, when Ichung’wah publicly accused Gachagua of plotting to send thugs to attack his elderly parents and torch their family home—claims that only deepened the already bitter political rift between the two once-close allies.
