The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has officially launched a new WhatsApp number to make it easier for members of the public to report criminal activity anonymously.

During a press briefing held on Tuesday, July 22, DCI Director Mohamed Amin announced that citizens can now send crime-related information directly to the DCI through the WhatsApp number 0709570000.

He emphasized that the new service will allow the public to share details securely and without revealing their identity.

Amin also reassured the public that the DCI’s original toll-free number, 0800722203, remains active and will continue to serve as a reliable option for reporting criminal incidents.

“The ‘Fichua Kwa DCI’ initiative has always provided Kenyans and even people outside the country with a secure and confidential way to share tips on criminal activities,” said Amin.

“With the addition of WhatsApp, we are introducing an easier, more modern way for people to give us valuable information quickly and safely.”

He further explained that the launch of the WhatsApp line marks a major improvement in how the DCI interacts with the public. It reflects the agency’s commitment to embracing new technologies to enhance crime detection and response.

“This upgrade enhances our accessibility and is part of our broader strategy to incorporate fast-evolving technologies into our crime-fighting operations,” he added.

The ‘Fichua Kwa DCI’ campaign, which means “Reveal to the DCI,” was created to encourage the public to take an active role in helping combat crime by reporting anything suspicious or criminal. It allows individuals to provide critical information to investigators while remaining completely anonymous.

The initiative is run through a dedicated facility known as the Fichua Centre, also referred to as the Fichua Call Centre or Fichua Hotline Centre. This centre is operated by a specialized team of trained officers who receive anonymous calls and messages, assess the information, and forward credible intelligence to the appropriate DCI departments for action.

According to the DCI, these officers are well-trained and multilingual, making it possible to receive and handle reports from both local citizens and individuals based outside of Kenya.

The agency said the platform has already played a vital role in solving major criminal cases and will continue to be a key tool in national security operations.

By introducing the WhatsApp line, the DCI hopes to increase public participation in the fight against crime and make it easier for anyone, anywhere, to send in tips quickly and securely.
