Ichung’wah Given 48-Hour Deadline Over Comments on Pastor Dorcas

DCP Officials Demand Ichung’wah Apologize or Face Legal Action

Leaders from the Democratic for Citizens Party (DCP) in Murang’a County have issued a stern 48-hour ultimatum to National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah following his controversial remarks targeting Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, wife to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Speaking during a press conference held on Wednesday, July 23, the officials demanded that Ichung’wah immediately retract his statement and issue a public apology to the former DP’s family.

They warned that failure to do so within 48 hours would leave them with no option but to pursue legal action against the Kikuyu MP.

Ichung’wah allegedly insinuated that Gachagua was facing marital difficulties and suggested that he was being controlled by his wife, Pastor Dorcas. These statements were heavily criticized by the DCP officials, who described them as both offensive and contrary to African cultural values.

“We, as members of the DCP in Murang’a, are giving Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah 48 hours to retract his disrespectful remarks. If he fails to comply, we shall take the matter to court,” said one official.

They further called upon community elders to step in and symbolically cleanse Ichung’wah, stating that his words dishonored not just the Rigathi family, but also the dignity of women in leadership and motherhood.

“Elders must now act. This is not just a political insult—it is a cultural taboo. As a leader, you cannot insult someone who stands as a mother figure in public. Such conduct is unacceptable,” another official added.

Call for Intervention from Rights Groups and International Bodies

The DCP officials also appealed to human rights groups, government agencies, and international organizations to condemn Ichung’wah’s remarks and call for accountability.

“It’s wrong for anyone to remain silent when such statements are made. Pastor Dorcas is being targeted unfairly, and that could instill fear in her and other women leaders. This must be addressed,” a party member emphasized.

Ichung’wah’s comments have also triggered backlash across the country, with many Kenyans online describing his words as inappropriate, disrespectful, and unbecoming of a national leader. Some urged him to criticize fellow politicians directly and avoid dragging their spouses into political battles.

Pastor Dorcas Responds Boldly to the Allegations

Pastor Dorcas, who recently returned from a two-month visit to the U.S. alongside her husband, strongly refuted Ichung’wah’s claims. She maintained that her relationship with Gachagua was built on love, trust, and mutual respect.

“Just because my husband sometimes lets me speak first doesn’t mean I dominate him,” she said. “How can anyone say I control a man who keeps the whole country awake? A man whom the President, the Deputy President, and MPs can’t seem to stop talking about?”

She added that the public narrative being pushed by leaders like Ichung’wah was misleading and meant to discredit a powerful, respectable leader.

“People keep saying Wamunyoro this and that… but do you think such a man can be controlled by anyone? You people are simply spreading lies,” she said confidently.

Conclusion

As the deadline looms, the pressure is mounting on Ichung’wah to take back his comments. The unfolding controversy has not only deepened the rift within political circles but also sparked a broader discussion about respect for families and the role of women in Kenya’s political space.
