Ruto Announces New Date for Youths to Receive Ksh50,000

Ruto Announces New Date for Youths to Receive Ksh50,000 Business Support

Kenyan youths eager to start their own businesses will begin receiving Ksh50,000 each from September this year, President William Ruto has confirmed.

The President made the announcement on Saturday morning during the Nairobi County Empowerment Forum held at State House, Nairobi.

The event brought together local residents and leaders for an open discussion on development and economic opportunities. Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja and other senior county officials accompanied the Head of State.

Ruto explained that his government has already reached a formal agreement with the World Bank to ensure the smooth and successful rollout of the initiative.

He disclosed that the government will soon release Ksh5 billion for distribution to selected youth across the country. Specifically, 70 young people in each ward will be identified and supported to start small-scale businesses, with each beneficiary receiving Ksh50,000.

According to the President, this initiative is expected to reach over 100,000 young people nationwide. He stressed that the programme is not limited to Nairobi but will cover every ward in Kenya.

“I have made it clear that from next month, we have agreed with the World Bank to support young people in each ward. Seventy youths in every ward will receive Ksh50,000 to start their businesses,” Ruto said. “This is not just for Nairobi wards; it will be for all wards in the country. This means more than 100,000 young people will benefit.”

The funds will be issued strictly to youth registered under the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) programme. NYOTA is a five-year government project funded by the World Bank, aimed at tackling unemployment, boosting income opportunities, and helping young people save and invest in their future.

Ruto’s announcement comes just a few days after the government urged Kenyans applying for the NYOTA programme to be alert and avoid falling victim to fraudsters.

There has been a rise in fake online platforms posing as official programme channels and targeting unsuspecting youths.

In a statement released on Monday, August 4, the programme administrators reminded applicants that NYOTA is completely free of charge, and no one should pay for application or registration services.

They emphasised that updates and announcements will only be issued through official NYOTA social media pages and the programme’s verified website.

“All updates on applications will be sent to the phone numbers provided during registration, in addition to official announcements on the project website and our authorised social media channels,” the administrators stated.

If you’d like, I can also expand this with more background on NYOTA’s goals, funding details, and potential impact to make it even richer for publication.
