A disturbing video circulating on social media has sparked outrage among Kenyans after it allegedly showed a group of women assaulting their friend in Mwiki, Nairobi, accusing her of leaving her two-month-old baby unattended to go clubbing.
The footage, shared by The Nairobi Times on X (formerly Twitter), appears to capture several women confronting the young mother in what seems to be a residential setting.
Voices in the video accuse her of neglecting her infant, claiming the baby had been left hungry and unattended while she went out for the night.
At one point, some of the women are seen physically attacking her, pulling her hair, and shouting at her over what they described as irresponsible behaviour.
The video quickly went viral, drawing mixed reactions from the public. Many social media users expressed anger towards the alleged neglect, saying such actions endanger the wellbeing of a child. Others condemned the assault, noting that while the accusations were serious, taking the law into one’s own hands was also wrong.
Some people online also urged that after confronting the woman, the same should be done to the child’s father if it turns out he had denied responsibility.
They questioned why he was absent in ensuring the safety of his own child, arguing that both parents should be held accountable for the ordeal the baby allegedly went through.
At the time of writing, there has been no official statement from local authorities or confirmation from mainstream media on the full circumstances of the incident. It remains unclear whether the matter has been reported to police or if any arrests have been made.
The case has reignited public debate on responsible parenting, child safety, and the role of communities in protecting children.
It has also raised concerns over the dangers of mob justice, with some commentators urging Kenyans to report suspected neglect to the relevant authorities rather than resorting to violence.
