Peter Ayiro, a long-serving teacher at Alliance Girls’ High School, has officially resigned after being named in serious grooming allegations involving students at the school.
In a resignation letter seen by Newshub.co.ke, Ayiro addressed the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and stated that his resignation should take effect immediately.
“I hereby tender my resignation from the Teachers Service Commission, effective immediately under the terms and conditions of service,” he said, bringing his teaching career to an abrupt end.
Ayiro, who taught German and also served as the Christian Union (CU) patron at the renowned institution, came under fire in July when shocking claims surfaced.
According to multiple former students, he allegedly manipulated learners using his position of authority, Christian influence, and emotional favors.
These allegations indicated that he began grooming students while they were still in school, only to pursue sexual relations with them once they turned 18 and completed their studies. Some testimonies date back to the early 2000s, while others are as recent as 2022.
In his letter, Ayiro, who had been a teacher for 26 years, claimed that the allegations had shattered his personal and professional life. He insisted that the accusations were completely false and stated that the outcry had caused him immense mental and emotional hardship.
He explained that he has been facing intense cyberbullying, threats to his safety, and harsh judgment from society, including people from his church.
“This decision has not come easily,” he wrote. “It is a result of the false accusations levelled against me.
I continue to endure evil, monstrous and persistent cyberbullying, threats of physical harm, public humiliation, and even being ostracised from my church.”
He added that the weight of the scandal has heavily damaged his character, livelihood, and social life. He described the experience as extremely stressful and overwhelming.
However, despite leaving under such difficult circumstances, Ayiro expressed appreciation for the many years he served as a teacher. He said the teaching job had helped him grow and gain important experience over the decades.
He also mentioned that he hoped the TSC would continue to uphold fairness, transparency, and support for teachers across the country.
Ayiro completed his resignation process by paying the equivalent of one month’s salary, instead of giving the usual notice period.
The scandal grew even bigger after an investigative report was published by one of the alleged victims. The exposé compiled detailed accounts from several former students who described how Ayiro allegedly targeted, influenced, and abused them emotionally and sexually.
These testimonies revealed that he allegedly gained their trust in school through gifts, leadership roles, or religious activities, and later reconnected with them after they left high school to pursue inappropriate relationships.
The revelations sparked widespread public outrage and led to a national debate about safeguarding students in schools.
As more alleged victims came forward, activists and the public demanded that Ayiro be arrested and punished. Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok also weighed in, calling for the immediate dismissal and prosecution of the teacher.
The entire situation has triggered serious conversations about how schools monitor teacher-student relationships and protect learners from potential abuse.
