Kenya Power Announces 7 Counties to Experience Electricity Interruptions

Kenya Power Schedules Electricity Blackout in Seven Counties on Thursday, August 21

The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has informed customers in seven counties that they should expect power interruptions on Thursday, August 21, 2025, as the company carries out planned system maintenance.

According to the notice issued by the utility firm, the interruptions will last for up to 10 hours, beginning as early as 7:00 am in some areas and running until around 5:00 pm.

Kenya Power explained that the temporary disconnection of electricity is necessary to allow engineers to maintain and upgrade parts of the power system for improved service delivery.

In its communication to customers, KPLC urged households, businesses, and institutions in the affected areas to make prior arrangements to avoid inconveniences.

Areas to Be Affected

1. Nairobi County

  • Time: 7:00 am – 5:00 pm
  • Locations: Parts of Westlands, including General Mathenge, Peponi Road, Peponi Gardens, Spring Valley Road, Peponi Cliff, Donyo Sabuk, Pine Wood Apartments, sections of Eldama Ravine Road, and surrounding areas.

2. Kisumu County (Sondu area)

  • Time: 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
  • Locations: Kandaria, Ingutsi Primary and Ingutsi Centre, Ngege Primary, Maraboi Water project, Chabera, and nearby areas.

3. Tharaka Nithi County (Igambang’ombe and Ntumbara areas)

  • Time: 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
  • Locations: Kamatanka Market, Mpangua Village, Igambang’ombe, Kamaindi Market, and adjacent neighborhoods.

4. Murang’a County (Gatanga area)

  • Time: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
  • Locations: Githingiri Estate, Thika Green Estate, Mugumo Farm, Mugumo Police Post, Carton Manufacturer, Bahati Farm, Jowaki Estate, KARI Thika, Memorial Hospital, and nearby customers.

5. Meru County (Ntugi, Kiirua, and Gitoro areas)

  • Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
  • Locations:
    ATC Tower-Kiborione, Meru Central Kiirua, Ntugi Secondary School, Muthengene Village, Afia Millers, Three Steers Hotel, Meru National Polytechnic, the whole of Gitoro, Rocky Area–Bellavista, Kwa Kamau, Wason Sawmills, Mboroga, Machaka Slums, Kiirua Mission Hospital, Njeru Industries, Marinya, Ntugi Market, Kiirua Technical Institute, Kiirua Market, Mitoone, Gatwe, Munithu Secondary, Kambiti Primary School, Kambiti Market, Kienderu Market, Kiruai C/Fact, Kogoacheke, Kaaga, Elsa Hotel, Consolata Mission Hospital Gitoro, Kamabakia, Cool Breeze, KCB Makutano, Safaricom BTS Makutano, Amara, Nevada, and other surrounding customers.

6. Kiambu County

  • Ndumboini and Uthiru areas
    • Time: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
    • Locations: Ndumboini Market, UON Kabete Vet, Uthiru 87, Uthiru Girls, Njathaini, Kanyariri Market, Kanyariri Police, and nearby areas.
  • Juja and Mangu Road areas
    • Time: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
    • Locations: Mungetho, Mirimaini, Kiaora Farm, Nchengo Farm, Mtaro Farm, Kariki Farm, Bob Harries, Kijito, Mashule Estate, Karakuta Estate, Gachibi Farm, Kwa Ndumbe, Kirai, Mutuma Market, Gitatuiiya, Mangu, Igegania, St. Francis Mangu Girls, Kairi, Kagabwa, Gatukuyu, Kawira, Allan Dashi, Diana Farm, Kihenia Farm, Kigio Market, Oriti Farm, Runyua Farmers, Karibaribi, Kirika Farm, Uzima Centre, Bubbles, Maryhill Girls, Eagadds Farm, and surrounding areas.

7. Kilifi County (Marafa and Sabaki areas)

  • Time: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
  • Locations: Mambrui Town, KBC Marekebuni, Marafa, Garashi, Wakala, Karibuni Villas, Beach Bay, Mwembe Resort, Savannah, Mijikenda Residence, Angels Bay, Sabaki, and nearby areas.

Advisory to Customers

Kenya Power emphasized that the interruptions are part of regular upgrades to ensure a more stable electricity supply.

Customers in the affected areas are advised to charge essential devices in advance, plan for alternative power sources where possible, and take necessary safety precautions during the outage period.
