Babu Owino Reveals MPs Booed Raila in Front of Ruto

Babu Owino Claims Raila Was Booed by ODM MPs in Front of President Ruto

Embakasi East Member of Parliament, Babu Owino, has made a bold claim that Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga faced open hostility during a recent Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting that brought together ODM lawmakers and members of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Babu Owino, a close ally of Raila, alleged that some ODM MPs who attended the joint meeting ended up booing the opposition leader right in front of President William Ruto, a move he described as outright betrayal and political rebellion.

Speaking on Friday, August 29, the vocal lawmaker clarified that his Kenya Moja faction should not be branded as rebels within ODM. Instead, he insisted that the true rebels were the MPs who attended the controversial PG meeting and chose to disrespect Raila.

“We have remained loyal to the principles of the ODM party and continue to operate within its democratic structures,” Owino explained. “Those who actually turned their backs on the party are the ones who went to that meeting only to boo Baba.

Isn’t that the real definition of rebellion? Isn’t that a lack of loyalty to our leader? For those of us who stayed away, we already knew what was being planned, and we refused to participate in humiliating Baba.”

The August 18 meeting, which was attended by President William Ruto and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, was initially intended to show unity and cooperation between UDA and ODM following their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreement.

However, the gathering quickly took an unexpected turn when President Ruto reportedly used the platform to lecture MPs and Senators about corruption cases in both houses.

Interestingly, key ODM leaders such as Babu Owino and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who also serves as the party’s Secretary General, were absent from the meeting. Their absence now appears deliberate, given Babu’s latest claims.

Beyond criticizing ODM rebels, Babu Owino also used the moment to highlight the growing influence of the Kenya Moja movement. According to him, the movement has already attracted the support of about 70 MPs and is steadily building momentum with the goal of reshaping Kenya’s political landscape.

“We are not just another political force — we are the real force that cannot be ignored,” Owino asserted. “Our mission is to strongly and passionately champion the interests of Kenyans.

Even though we don’t have a registered political party at the moment, we have a huge following because the people are with us. The Kenya Moja spirit is spreading fast.”

He further disclosed that talks are ongoing to recruit even more MPs into the movement. Notably, he hinted that Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro is expected to join Kenya Moja in the near future.

“We are still in discussions and carefully making decisions as members of Kenya Moja,” Babu said. “At the right time, we will announce the leader or candidate that we will fully support, but one thing is clear — that candidate must be pro-people and committed to genuine change. Personally, I’ve already held talks with Ndindi Nyoro, and I am confident he will soon become part of this movement.”

Through his remarks, Babu Owino painted Kenya Moja as a rising force positioning itself as an alternative voice of the people while casting doubt on the loyalty of ODM members who sided with President Ruto during the joint PG meeting.
