The Kenya Meteorological Department has advised residents across several parts of the country to prepare for more rainfall and chilly conditions in the coming days.
According to the weekly forecast released by the department, the weather changes will affect different regions between Tuesday, September 9, and Saturday, September 13.
Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley
Counties such as Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, and Nairobi will mainly experience sunny mornings throughout the week.
However, showers are likely in a few areas during the afternoons, with a higher chance of light rainfall on Tuesday night.
From Wednesday to Saturday, residents should also expect cloudy nights. Temperatures in these regions will remain cool, with maximums of about 29°C and minimums dropping to as low as 7°C.
Eastern and Southern Counties
In Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta, together with the inland areas of Tana River County, residents will experience long hours of sunshine during the day.
Evenings and nights are expected to remain partly cloudy. The temperatures will be slightly warmer, with daytime highs of about 32°C and nighttime lows of around 9°C.
Coastal Region
Parts of the Coast, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and some areas of Tana River, are expected to receive intermittent showers. Rainfall is likely in scattered places on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, while Wednesday and Saturday mornings will be mostly sunny.
During the afternoons, the sun will break through, while nights are expected to be cloudy. The temperatures in these counties will range between a maximum of 31°C and a minimum of 20°C, making it relatively warm and humid.
Lake Victoria Basin, Rift Valley, and Western Kenya
Counties in the western region, including Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot, will experience the heaviest rainfall this week.
Daylong rains and thunderstorms are expected in several parts of these counties, with showers also continuing at night. The maximum temperatures will reach about 30°C, while the minimum will drop to around 9°C.
Northern Counties
In Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, the weather will be mostly hot and sunny during the day with cloudy nights. These regions will record some of the highest temperatures in the country, with daytime highs of about 37°C and cooler nights with lows of 14°C.
Turkana and Samburu
Residents of Turkana and Samburu counties should prepare for morning showers in a few areas, followed by sunny afternoons. Nights will remain partly cloudy throughout the week.
The forecast indicates that maximum temperatures will be around 35°C, while minimum temperatures could drop to about 8°C, making for sharp contrasts between day and night conditions.
