Several Gor Mahia Fans Injured in Road Accident Along Nairobi–Nakuru Highway

Several fans of Gor Mahia Football Club were injured on Saturday afternoon after their bus was involved in a serious accident at Kimende along the busy Nairobi–Naivasha highway.

According to initial reports, the bus was speeding when the driver lost control. The vehicle veered off the main road and overturned, landing on the roadside. Witnesses explained that the group of supporters had been returning to Nairobi after attending a burial ceremony upcountry when the tragedy struck.

Local residents quickly rushed to the scene and launched a rescue mission before emergency services arrived. They worked together to pull trapped passengers from the wreckage and rushed the injured to Kijabe Mission Hospital for urgent medical attention.

Unconfirmed reports indicated that at least six people sustained severe injuries and were in critical condition, while several others were treated for minor injuries.

Videos and photos widely shared online showed chaotic scenes as passengers scrambled to get out of the overturned bus through broken windows while locals struggled to rescue those pinned inside.

Footage shared by Kenyans.co.ke also captured some victims lying on the roadside receiving first aid, while others were seen trying to salvage their belongings from the wreck.

At the time of the incident, police officers had not yet arrived at the scene, leaving most of the rescue work in the hands of residents and fellow passengers.

This accident comes at a time when the country has recorded a worrying rise in road crashes. Just a day earlier, a separate tragedy had been reported in Mihango, Chokaa Estate, Nairobi County.

In that incident, a school bus carrying 13 pupils lost control, veered off the road, and fatally knocked down a pupil who was walking nearby.

The deceased was reportedly from a different school. Thirteen children from the bus also sustained injuries and were rushed for treatment. Witnesses expressed concern that the school involved did not issue an immediate response after the tragedy.

On the same Friday, another road accident occurred along the Kenol–Kabati highway in Murang’a County when a 14-seater matatu overturned. Several passengers were injured, though most escaped with only minor injuries. Quick intervention by locals at the scene helped rescue all the occupants, preventing further loss of life.

The three accidents highlight the rising cases of road carnage being witnessed across Kenya. Authorities continue to urge motorists to exercise caution, observe speed limits, and maintain discipline on the roads to reduce the growing number of accidents that claim lives and leave many with life-changing injuries.
