Kericho Man in Distress After Wife Abandons Two Children and Vanishes
A family in Kericho County has been thrown into confusion and heartbreak after a young mother mysteriously disappeared, leaving her two children behind at a shop before vanishing without a trace.
The woman, identified as Sheila Chepkorir, has not been seen since Wednesday, September 10. She abandoned her one-year-seven-month-old baby and her seven-year-old child, telling them she was heading to the posho mill. However, she never came back, leaving the children unattended.
Her husband, Josphat Rono, a 35-year-old farmer, is now left in shock and pain, struggling to understand why his 22-year-old wife walked out on their family without any explanation. Speaking to Newshub.co.ke, Rono said the disappearance has not only unsettled his family but also left both him and his in-laws in deep distress.
Rono Recalls the Last Day With His Wife
Rono narrated the last conversation he had with Chepkorir on the day she vanished.
“It was a market day, and I had gone to sell some cows at the nearby trading centre. I left the house early in the morning and later called her from the market. I told her that if I made good sales, she should pass by and collect money for house shopping,” Rono said.
Later that day, the weather suddenly turned chilly, forcing Rono to return home briefly for a sweater. At the same time, he wanted to leave some money for shopping before heading back to the market.
“When I came home the first time, I didn’t find her or the children. I wasn’t alarmed then, so I just picked my sweater, left the shopping money, and went back to the market,” he explained.
Children Left at the Shop
In the evening, Rono felt uneasy and decided to leave the market earlier than planned. On his way home, he stopped by a shop, where he was shocked to find his two children eating snacks without their mother.
“It was around 5:30 p.m. The children told me their mother had gone to the posho mill. I took them home, thinking she would return soon. But as time went by, I started getting worried,” he recalled.
By 7:30 p.m., his fears deepened because Chepkorir rarely stayed out late. He kept waiting until around 10 p.m., when he realized something was terribly wrong.
“I even checked where I had left the money, hoping she might have taken it and gone to town. But I found the money still there. That’s when I knew things were not right,” Rono said.
Desperate Search for the Missing Woman
Rono alerted his neighbours, who immediately joined him in searching for his wife that night. Unfortunately, they did not find any trace of her. The search continued the following day without success, pushing Rono to report the matter at the police station.
He added that before disappearing, his wife had washed almost all the clothes in the house, something unusual for her. He later noticed that some of her personal belongings were missing, including her identity card and most of her clothes.
Her phone has remained switched off since that day, and none of her friends or relatives have been able to reach her.
Not the First Time She Has Disappeared
This is not the first time Chepkorir has left home without notice. According to Rono, she once disappeared for four days but later resurfaced at her parents’ home. At the time, the matter was resolved, and she returned. However, this time feels very different.
“Back then, at least we knew where she was. Now, she has gone silent, changed her phone line, and carried most of her belongings. It really feels like she may have gone to another man,” Rono said with a heavy heart.
Rono Loses Money to Conmen
The desperate father also revealed that in his attempt to trace his wife, he has already lost over KSh 15,000 to fraudsters who claimed to have seen her in different places. None of the leads have been fruitful.
The situation has also affected Chepkorir’s mother, who is deeply stressed as she, too, has no idea where her daughter might be.
Rono is now appealing to anyone with information about his wife’s whereabouts to reach him on his mobile number: +254 790 654664.
Similar Incident: Grieving Father Found at Child’s Grave
In another case of disappearance, a grieving father who had been reported missing was recently found sitting quietly at his child’s grave in Machakos County.
The man, identified as Charles Wakaba, was found days after his wife had raised the alarm. He appeared depressed as he sat at the grave of his child, who passed away a few years ago.
His disappearance had left his family worried, but his case highlighted the emotional struggles some people silently endure.
